The full moonrise is at 4:37 pm. Our goal is to be on Quarry Rock at 5:15 pm so we can watch the moon rise over the coast mountains. The weather forecast is fabulous. VERY IMPORTANT - please visit this site: https://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Global-Warming-and-Climate-Change-Action-Team/ Updates and Info will be posted on the above site. Social distance will be maintained at all times. Please bring a mask. We will meet in front of the A&W at Parkgate Mall just before 4, and depart at 4:05. The mall is at the intersection of Mt Seymour Parkway and Mt Seymour Road, in North Vancouver. We will caravan to the trailhead 3 km away. The hike is 5km round trip. The trail is only a 5 minute drive from the A&W. We will hike down to Quarry Rock from above, through the COVE FOREST, a magical grove of old growth ancient fir trees, the largest such grove left in the north shore mountains. The trail is steep and primitive, hand built by local residents, and there is no map. So bring waterproof hiking boots and warm waterproof clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. Bring rain gear just in case. Bring a headlamp or flashlight. Don’t rely on your phone light, its not bright enough to navigate in the forest in the dark. The hike is 5km round trip. Bring a thermos of tea to enjoy as we sit on Quarry Rock and watch the moonrise. I will bring song sheets so we can have a little singalong (Bob Marley, Dylan etc). Feel free to do the same! If you have a little Bluetooth speaker, bring it too help with the singalong. Expect the temperature in the forest to be just above freezing. The Beaver moon, also known as the scratching, digging, frost moon was named by Indigenous / Aboriginal people, to mark the time of year when animals prepare for the winter by foraging for seeds and nuts in the leaves, and when beavers prepare winter dams. Feel free to bring a friend or two!
The event will last 90 minutes. We will start right at 6PM, with a few minutes of going over what Yoga Nidra is, it’s benefits, and a brief explanation of how to do the practice. Everyone will then pick a “Sankalpa”. We will continue with a guided relaxation, and then go into the Yoga & Holy Fire ® III Experience. You will be laying down for the full experience. Please ensure you are in a quiet (preferably dark) room, or area. It is best to have headphones or ear buds. This first event will take place on the full moon, as the energies of the planet are stronger during that time. The second event (Dec 21) will take place on the Winter Solstice, where the energies are also alive! We will be able to go into deeper states of consciousness, and therefore are able to go deeper into our healing process. Even though the event is online, the energy of the space will still be protected. In Yoga Nidra, we remain in the space between the waking and sleeping states of consciousness, known in neuroscientific circles as the hypnagogic state. In this borderline state, we are able to absorb new pathways of change, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Mental phenomena that occur during this "threshold consciousness" phase include (but are not limited to) lucid thought and lucid dreaming. It is a form of "going within" during which we enter a profound state of relaxation whilst remaining alert and aware throughout the process. Yoga Nidra can be practiced by people of any religion or culture. For more information on Yoga Nidra, see here! This special class will also include a Holy Fire III Guided Experience (during Yoga Nidra). The influx of Holy Fire® III energy is a special experience that feels safe, steady and grounded. Rather than being aware of one’s Authentic Self in an altered state or as something happening in a high and distant place, it is experienced as being present within one’s physical body and as part of one's everyday life. Come explore your energy field and develop a ‘felt sense’ of how your thoughts and energetic boundaries affect your choices in life. Some of what you will rediscover is ... How to sense when you are present How to sense your energetic boundaries How to sense and control the amount of energy you allow into your system How to notice the effect that your thoughts and the thoughts of others have on you How to notice if what you believe to be true is actually true for you There will be some instruction, some practice and some time for questions and answers. It will be fun! Please Note: There is no requirement to stay for the whole 2 hours. The core information and exercises are at the beginning of the evening ... come and stay until you are full!
