What we're about
Welcome to Vancouver Tiny House!
We are Vancouver & Greater BC fans of the Tiny House movement. We are owners, want-to-be owners, builders, suppliers, hosts/land-owners, building code regulators, City officials and more. This is a positive and supportive group. This is NOT a forum for politics or activism. Whatever our reason for being here, we all SUPPORT the movement and want to see it moving ahead.
This site will be used to co-announce Tiny House events being held by owners, builders, suppliers, regulators, officials or other. Instead of going to each site to see what's going on, I hope to be able to list all of the events here as a one-stop-shop type of place. If you know of an upcoming Tiny-House event that is not yet posted, please share it here with everyone.
What is a Tiny House? There is no formal definition but it is commonly believed to be based on size:
Micro-house = >200sqft, typically 8'-6" max width for road transport or 10' max width with special transport permit, usually on mobile trailer platform, on-grid or off-grid
Tiny House = 200-500sqft, typically 8'-6" max width for road transport or 10' max width with special transport permit, often on mobile trailer platform, on-grid or off-grid
(Park Model House = up to 540sqft, wider, often with pop-out bays, transportable but meant for permanent placement with utilities > Mobile/Modular Home)
Small House = 500-900/1000sqft, permanent structure with utilities
House = 900/1000 - 8000sqft, permanent structure with utilities
Mansion = 8000+sqft, permanent structure with utilities
Tiny Houses are typically on wheels, but not always. All are build as non-permanent structures (ie can be picked up and moved out, or towed away). They may be off-grid (self-sufficient for water, electrical or sewage) or on-grid. They have similarities to RV's but are built for long-term occupancy and look more like a cabin or house.
