Women Talking WordPress | A Workshop on Speaking at Meetups

Women Talking WordPress is a workshop for women who are thinking about speaking at WordPress events, such as WordPress Meetup and WordCamp. The focus of the workshop will be to help generate topics to give a talk on, boost your speaking confidence, and allow you to practice speaking in a safe space. At the end of the workshop you will have a few ideas for talks, an outline on one topic, and a chance to practice speaking in a small group.

***You do NOT have to have any experience in public speaking. This workshop is for all levels of experience. The session will be a small group of max 20 ppl.

COST: $5
(All proceeds go back to the workshop and meetup group)

This workshop is for you if:

• You identify as female

• You’ve thought about getting up there at Meetup or WordCamp but haven’t been able to think of a topic

• You want to get comfortable speaking at The Network Hub (where WordPress Meetups are held)

This workshop is NOT for you if:

• You identify as male (Sorry, dudes. If this goes well, a more generalized workshop could be in the works.)

• If you don’t think it matters that there are very few female speakers at WordPress events

• Why speak at WordPress events? Why do we need more women speaking at them?

• Dispelling some myths about speakers/speaking

• Content generation exercise

• Creating a talk outline

• Practice giving a short talk

The workshop is organized by Jill Binder, Kate Moore, and Vanessa Chu.

This was such a wonderful experience. Thanks to the organizers and the women who shared an afternoon working to overcome the obstacles we find ourselves against when considering speaking publicly.

Sorry, I was not able to attend today's event after all :( I am still interested in talking in speaking in WordCamp. I have few topics in mind. In fact I applied twice in the past but was not accepted.

I have just RSVPed but have no idea if the payment was processed. This is the message I have received:
Sorry PayPal is taking a really long time getting back to us. Please don't submit another payment until you check back later to see if this one went through.

Thanks for letting us know, Michelle. We'll make sure it gets sorted out. See you at the workshop tomorrow.

Just submitted my payment. Meetup was down yesterday.

Here is a note from MeetUp:

Meetup is currently under DDoS attack ... Our services may be up/down intermittently as we seek to restore full functionality.

Great Idea! I think I am a good speaker, but that is just when I use a Korean :(. I really want to join the event like this workshop someday.

We have uncovered an issue in communication between and PayPal that is causing registrations to not be registered. While the issue is being addressed we're adding registrants manually. Register as normal and we'll make sure you get on the list. -m

If you identify as a woman and I were to ask you to come speak at our WordPress Meetup or even WordCamp, would you answer,
    - "I wouldn't know what to talk about."
    - "I don't know enough to give a talk."
    - "I don't do public speaking."
    - or something along those lines?

Then you should definitely come to this workshop!
