Hi All,

This rain-snow thing that's going on is going to make it difficult for many to attend to we're going to postpone for one week, until next Thurs., Feb. 16. See you all then!

As a follow up to his recent and very popular editing workshop, Telling the Biggest Story with the Fewest Words, please join Creative Coworkers and Vancouver Writers Group to welcome back Vancouver author, Jason Chabot, who will be sharing tips and techniques to sharpen your talents for creating unique and captivating characters. A one hour presentation will be followed by hands-on exercises and writing prompts, so be prepared to write and let your imagination soar while practising your craft. Get insightful feedback and make sure to bring lots of questions from your own work, past and present!

Biography: Jason Chabot (sha-bō′)

Jason grew up in the rural outskirts of a small B.C. town called Chilliwack – a Stó:lō First Nations word meaning “quieter water up the river” – where getting only one channel on television meant he had plenty of time to let his imagination soar to Above and Beyond, whenever he felt stuck in Below. After graduating from the University of British Columbia with a business degree, Jason articled as a Chartered Professional Accountant, then worked as a finance director in Vancouver for over a decade, crunching numbers by day, but writing stories during every spare minute he could find.

Inspired by his life on the West Coast, Jason chose to write a fantasy adventure novel for young adults because he was intrigued by how extreme natural elements might affect the lives of two teenagers when their physical worlds collide. His first book, BELOW, introduces Elia, who has been enslaved by class and drudgery, and Hokk, who is an exiled criminal, living in almost complete isolation. Jason enjoyed weaving an intricate tale that explores how each character discovers unforeseen strength to survive epic challenges, all while questioning their perceptions of reality.

In 2010, shortly after completing his debut novel, BELOW, Jason signed with Writers House, a New York literary agency, and later that same year sold his manuscript as part of a three-book deal with HarperCollins Canada. Jason’s series, The Broken Sky Chronicles, has subsequently been picked up by Turning Publishing Company for publication throughout the United States.
