Vancouver Xcoders: The Pencil and the Programmer, and What is Apple Afraid Of

Details

Our first event as Xcoders is here! VanCocoa is now Vancouver Xcoders, and we've moved to Meetup to broaden our audience.

Our spring meetup features talks by local developers Steven Masuch and Jot Kali.

Doors are at 6:30pm, and talks will start at 7pm. Due to security requirements at VFS, we can't admit folks once the talks start, so doors close at 7pm.

  1. Steven Masuch, Designer & Developer
  2. Jot Kali, iOS Developer
  3. Drinks afterwards at the Shebeen!

Steven Masuch - What Is Apple Afraid Of?

"Apple controls what goes on its App Store, and we know what they don’t like. But do we know why they don’t like some apps, some designs, some choices? Steven Masuch will lay out his theories on what Apple is afraid of, what to expect of Apple in the future, and how to avoid getting your own apps rejected."

Jot Kali - The Pencil Chooses the Programmer

"Since Woz’s technical magic gave the Apple II colour, Apple’s innovations have pushed forward our ability to use computers as tools. From each innovation, wonderful indie software companies have resulted that understand and extend the usefulness of the tool. This short talk goes over the innovations, the software companies that resulted, and makes a heartfelt pitch of the Apple Pencil being the under appreciated greatest tool of them all. A huge opportunity for wonder and magic is here. A few examples of delight will be presented, and a pitch for a new wave of Indies that each of us can create."

The event is at the VFS animation campus across from Woodward's, located at 151 West Cordova Street, in Theatre 106.

The Shebeen is located at 212 Carrall Street.
