What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in meeting up with some like-minded people for (non-serious) cycling. On-road, off-road or anywhere else with some (serious) café stops thrown in. Any distance in the Edinburgh area - Lothians and Borders, Fife and beyond. Beyond could mean weekend trips to the Highlands or Yorkshire or even Mallorca. Most rides though will be on road and around the 40 to 50 mile mark, but that will depend entirely upon the organiser who sets up the ride. 15-30 or up to 100 miles plus is good too.

Online Thursday Evening ZWIFT group ride

Online event

Thursday night group ride online in the Zwift world,to beat the weather and COVID blues- get online 7pm for a 7.15pm start

This is a scheduled group ride within Zwift, which uses the ride together function, so you will need to be invited to the group ride within the Zwift platform to be able to attend. We use the ride together function so that riders of all abilities, regardless of speed or power output, can enjoy cycling together round the virtual world and have a chat together whilst we cycle.

Please respond to this Meetup group invitation as normal and ensure that you have a zwift online account. Using Zwift, find and follow my online avatar - Philip Campbell (Velothian). This then allows me to extend a Zwift group ride invitation to you from within Zwift itself so you can join on the day. No follow in Zwift , means no invitation, means lost opportunity.

Sounds complicated ? Don't worry - it's not.

Downloading and using the Zwift Companion app on your phone makes all of the above much easier to do than it sounds.

Lastly, because we love to chat as we ride, download and have the Discord App set up on your phone, and make sure you have a set of headphones with integral microphone available to plug in for the ride.

For those who don't know about Zwift , do a You Tube search and there's plenty of video's - it surprisingly easy to set up and get started.

For those who do know, but want some tips about getting started up see my online article about the gear you need ...with some videos and maps too.

On the night, if you know you're riding, please check the Velothian WhatsApp Zwifting chat to see if there are any updates on the group ride or Discord weblinks that you need to be aware of. Its always good to be up to speed before you join in the fun online.

I use this as an opportunity to get some easy miles in , so the pace is deliberately relaxed and easy - not chasing any times / effort levels or the like, whilst chatting with people you can't see in real life ... but who are virtually with you on screen. Sounds bizarre ...but it works! Before you know it - you've cycled an hour - put in 15 to 20 miles...and had a blether. All good.

By signing up and participating in this run, you agree that for safety, courtesy and cycling etiquette reasons, you will have read the guidance and good cycling practice notes for group riding as described in:
1. VeLothian Member Responsibilities.
2. VeLothian Group Rides Guidance and Basic Etiquette
3. VeLothian Warning Calls & Hand Signals for Group Riding
