Class this Saturday, Weekly Quote Today.. Weekly quote: "Some see the Self in meditation, through the Self. Others see it through Samkhya (discernment) and others through the yoga of selfless action. Still others who know it not worship it upon hearing from others. Those who find peace in hearing the scriptures also go beyond death." ~ The Bhagavad-GIta Dear friends, Saturday class continues in Olema this Saturday, 10AM-11:30AM. As usual, we'll begin with a short meditation followed by a talk on a spiritual text and an open, free-flowing discussion. All are welcome, and no previous knowledge is required. Peace and Om, The Vedanta Retreat https://sfvedanta.org/
Vedanta literally translates to "the end/essence of the vedas". It is a Hindu school of thought that reflects ideas contained in the Upanishads. Upanishads are Hindu scriptures written at the end of the Vedic period. Although, Vedanta itself is an umbrella term for various ideologies like dualism and non-dualism, one of the most popular forms of Vedanta is Advaita (non-dualism). Adi Shankara, Ramakrishna and Vivekananda are philosophers of this school of thought. Their interpretations of Advaita Vedanta are the foundations of our discussions. We meet every Sunday and participate in a spiritual discourse by Swami Tattwamayananda, minister-in-charge of the Vedanta Society of San Francisco. *** The Spiritual discussions held in Sunnyvale on The Second Sunday of every month is discontinued for various reasons including the attendance. Please indicate, if you'd be interested, to the Swami whenever you meeting him. Thank you. *** Speaker's Bio: A monk of the Ramakrishna order of India, Swami Tattwamayananda is the minister in charge of the Vedanta Society of Northern California in San Francisco, originally founded by Swami Vivekananda. Besides traditional education in Sanskrit and Vedantic scriptures, Swami Tattwamayananda has also received modern University education in English literature, Psychology and Western Philosophy. He is frequently invited for lectures on Yoga, Vedanta, and traditional Hindu scriptures.
