OVERVIEW:

We will continue work to clear the Carrizo Trail. On our last trip we cleared up to Carrizo Spring Camp. This time, we will work above camp and try to clear up to the first ridge.

Our camp is 3.4 miles up a steep hill to Carrizo Springs Camp. After we set up our tents, we'll get to work.

The VWA worked on this trail last spring, both with volunteers and with the Gabilan Conservation Corps. Thanks to the support of the Backcountry Horsemen of California and VWA Volunteer Wilderness Rangers, the first 2+ miles are in great shape. In February of this year, a volunteer crew of 17 cleared the last 1.4 miles to camp. Now we can hike in and work on the next sections that needs our attention. The goal is to clear all the way to the top of the Coast Ridge.

THE WORK:

There is work for all abilities. You have a choice of brushing, grubbing out brush, or tread work.

VWA TRAIL CREW LEADER: Maria Ferdin

MEET: At the Indians area at the junction of Road 6 and Del Venturi Road Google Maps search for Salsipuedes Ranch, Big Sur, CA 93920 to get you to the general area. But do not drive to the end of the road. We will meet at the paved road. Also, the directions may tell you to take Road 5. This is considerably more difficult for some vehicles than Road 6. Meet at Road 6.
