This is the very top of Nacimiento-Fergusson Road. Cone Peak Road is beyond a gate on the north side. Join us on a three day backpack to work on clearing fallen trees from the Gamboa Trail. This is a 3 day/2 night backpack at COOK SPRINGS off of the North Coast Ridge Trail. We will drive to the end of the Cone Peak Road. We will drop our packs, work down towards Trail Springs, then hike back up and camp at Cook Springs. This trail has not been cleared in 3 years so there is lots to do. There may be an option to join the group on Saturday morning.
THE WORK:
Logging. Lots of it. There is plenty of brushing but we will try to focus on removing the fallen trees.
Meet at the top of Nacimiento-Fergusson Road where the Cone Peak Road starts. Note: there is minimal cell reception in the area so if you are late, you won't have a way to contact the leader.
BRING: In addition to bringing essential items of personal gear and food for the duration of the trip, please also include:
• Work gloves, sturdy work clothes, protective eyewear, hardhats, and sturdy shoes or boots
• Day pack able to carry 3 liters of water or as much as you need for one day
• Extra food and snacks for the trail
• Tecnu lotion for poison oak if you need it
• Your favorite loppers and handsaw if you have them, otherwise these tools will be provided
• Hard hats will be issued
• Safety instruction will be provided
• Don’t forget to bring a special contribution to the famous, festive and fabulous VWA hors d’oeurves POTLUCK
In the event rain is forecast, the trip will be re-scheduled.
