Details
TRIP TITLE / DATES / IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:
Backpack Two Night South Fork Trail Logging
VWA TRAIL CREW LEADER:
Betsy MacGowan
OVERVIEW:
BACKPACKING TRIP
HIKE 5 miles from the trailhead
WORK on clearing fallen trees from the South Fork Trail from Strawberry Camp. Plus any trees on the Marble Peak Trail on the way in.
This will be a strenuous hike but a good introduction to backpacking and trailwork. Plus an excellent opportunity to see this remote area, and learn all about using a crosscut saw. Work on the South Fork Trail beyond the Stawberry Camp. There is water at our camp location and many places along the trail.
THE WORK:
There is work for all abilities. Primarily logging. There will also be brushing with loppers and hand saws on this trip, plus grubbing out brush including poison oak. If you are allergic to poison oak, there is plenty of work that does not involve PO.
MEET: Big Sur Multi Agency Facility 8 A.M. DON'T BE LATE!
IMPORTANT: Meetup directions may not be the best. In you mapping program, search for:
Big Sur Station, 47555 CA-1, Big Sur, CA 93920
The Big Sur Multi Agency Facility is at Big Sur Station. It is on the east (inland) side of Highway One, about a half mile south of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. For those coming from the north, after you pass Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, you cross the Big Sur River on an inconspicuous bridge. Then as you start the uphill, there is a left turn lane; use this left turn lane to turn in to the Multi Agency Facility at Big Sur Station. If you go over a larger bridge, and get to the Big Sur Bakery, you have gone too far.
LEADER APPROVAL REQUIRED due to the access issues; contact leader for acceptance on this trip and meeting details.
