CANCELED! Back Pack One Night BRUSHING Trail Work Pine Ridge Trail

Details

CANCELED due to Coronavirus. Will be rescheduled when the situation resolves.

TRIP TITLE / DATES / IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS:

Backpack One Night Pine Ridge Trail

VWA TRAIL CREW LEADER:

Betsy MacGowan

OVERVIEW:

BACKPACKING TRIP

HIKE 1.5 miles from the trailhead to Terrace Creek Camp. Set up camp, and hike another 1.5 miles to the end of work, on the Ventana Camp Trail. Exact location will depend on how much progress is made in previous trips.

WORK on the Pine Ridge Trail and Ventana Camp Trail before Terrace Creek Camp. This section of the trail burned in the Soberanes Fire in 2016 and the trail has been closed since then. VWA volunteers have cleared the Terrace Creek Trail down to Terrace Creek Camp. Now we are working on the Pine Ridge and Ventana Camp Trails. We are working back towards the State Park boundary. Work is challenging but very rewarding to see the clear sections.

This will be a good introduction to backpacking and trailwork. Plus an opportunity to support the effort to re-open the Pine Ridge Trail.

THE WORK:

There is work for all abilities. Beginner to expert. Tools and instruction provided for brushing/tread work. The work location doesn't have a lot of poison oak, but we walk through a section at the start of the hike. So long sleeves and long pants are recommended even for the hike in.

MEET: Big Sur Multi Agency Facility 8 A.M. DON'T BE LATE!

IMPORTANT: Meetup directions may not be the best. In your mapping program, search for:
Big Sur Station, 47555 CA-1, Big Sur, CA 93920

The Big Sur Multi Agency Facility is at Big Sur Station, on the east (inland) side of Highway One, about a half mile south of Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park. For those coming from the north, after you pass Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park, you cross the Big Sur River on an inconspicuous bridge. Then as you start the uphill, use the left turn lane to turn in to the Multi Agency Facility. If you go over a larger bridge, and get to the Post Office and the Big Sur Bakery, you have gone too far.

LEADER APPROVAL REQUIRED due to the access issues; contact leader for acceptance on this trip and meeting details.
