What we're about

You are cordially invited to attend the Veterans Day Ceremony, starting promptly at 11:00 am, on Sunday, November 11, 2018, at Sunset Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, in Bellevue, Washington.

Organized by the Committee to Honor American Veterans, a committee sponsored by the Sons of the American Revolution (“SAR”), and composed of members of the SAR, American Legion Post 161, VFW Post 2995, the Association of Washington Generals, and Sunset Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, the Veterans Day Ceremony is an important and memorable way to honor our veterans, living and dead. Following the ceremony, attendees will be asked to participate in placing American flags on the graves of more than 2,900 veterans.

The ceremony will include senior officers from each branch of service, members of the Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Wives, the USO, the Sons of the American Revolution, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts, a bugler from the US Navy Band, the VFW Honor Guard, and the UW Air Force ROTC Color Guard, with music provided by Westminster Chapel, and bagpipe music by David Wilkie. During the ceremony, all veterans and active duty military will be honored, with particular recognition of living Medal of Honor recipients from Washington State. Those who served during the Vietnam era will be especially honored as part of the Department of Defense 50th Anniversary Commemoration of the Vietnam War, receiving the Vietnam Veteran lapel pin.

In addition, this year we are doing something extraordinary. We are honoring all of the spouses of deceased Vietnam Veterans with a unique lapel pin crafted by the Department of Defense 50th Anniversary Commemoration, with special recognition for those spouses and mothers whose deceased Veteran appears on the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.

This is always a well-attended and moving ceremony, and is incredibly impactful on those who attend. The event is open to the public, and all are invited to attend.
