Desktop Applications with Electron with InVision

Electron is a framework that allows you to create multi-platform applications for the Desktop using web technologies. It is the technology of several applications, such as Slack, Atom, VS Code and Discord, but it also suffers from bad reputation: performance problems, poor memory usage and non-native look.

In this presentation, there will be an overview of the framework, a discussion about when to use or not to use Electron, and an exemplification of several techniques to improve the performance of these applications.

🗣João Portela:

João is a Senior Software Engineer from InVision since 2015, where he is part of the team that created InVision Studio, the new prototyping, and animation tool for designing digital products. He works remotely from Porto, where he lives and studied (MIEIC / FEUP). He worked at Blip / Betfair and Imaginary Cloud, where he had the opportunity to develop digital products from scratch and learn various software development processes.
