What we're about

This is a critique group of writers from published to writing their first creative sentences. We have been meeting for several years and are starting this meetup group to be more visible to other Atlanta writers who want to get involved.

We recently moved to Manuel's Tavern which has a lot more space and would love to have more of the Atlanta literary community join us.

Upcoming events (4+)

(in-person) Vicious Circle Writers Group

Needs a location

Bring a piece you've written (less than 2000 words) that you want critiqued to the legendary Manuel's Tavern for insightful feedback, delicious food, strong drink, and excellent company.

You don't have to bring your writing to participate, but it's always more fun if you do!

We ask that those who come to Manuel’s Tavern in person have either been vaccinated or have had a negative test during the 3 days prior to the meetup. We will still wear masks except when eating during the meetup.

(virtual) Vicious Circle Writers Group Meeting

Link visible for attendees

This meeting is for those who can't attend in person due to distance or circumstances. This meeting is separate from the in-person session, but takes place during the same time frame. All genres, styles, and formats are welcome, including poetry, screenplays, spoken word, memoirs, academic writing, graphic novels, and erotica.

Participation

While other people are reading, please keep yourself muted. Even if you're in a relatively quiet place, unexpected noises (a sneezing or coughing fit, the doorbell ringing, your phone going off, a train rolling by, music from an ice cream truck, a barking dog, etc.) can disturb the group. Refrain from unmuting yourself unless the meeting hasn't officially started yet, the meeting has already ended (we sometimes hang out and chat afterwards), or you are actively speaking.

Log on to the meeting using this information:

Submission Guidelines (you do NOT have to read in order to attend)

If you would like to share a piece, please prepare a Google Doc or Dropbox Paper file that you can share with the group using a link.

This allows us to follow along silently while you read your piece aloud.

Before you share the link with us, be sure that you have the file set to allow us to view the document.
Your link will look something like this:

Readers

We can comfortably field up to 5 readers with each reader getting 10 minutes to read and 10 minutes for feedback from the group. If we have fewer readers, this time may be lengthened.
The list of readers is created on a first-come-first-served basis. So, if you'd like to share, let the group know in the chat as soon as you can by pasting your name and the link to your submission (as noted in these instructions).

Feedback
After your piece is read aloud, members will give feedback. You don't have to take any of it. The point of the critique is to give you an idea of how strangers might react to your writing, your story, or the information you've shared. This can help you make your own editorial decisions about what (not) to change in your work.

Meeting Schedule

We meet every SECOND and FOURTH Monday nights of each month from 7:00 p.m. (EDT) until 9:00 p.m. (EDT).

We can't wait to virtually meet you!
