Welcome to the first paid for Meet Up for this group. This particular Meet Up will focus on the "how to's" for long exposure photography in nature (set up, cloud movement, water movement, tides, etc.). I like to call long exposures photography as "seeing what we can't see" which is a nice way to sum up what I normally end up creating. As some of you know, I am sponsored by Breakthrough Photography Filters based in San Francisco and they have graciously supplied a wide variety of lens filters for use at my workshops and Meet Ups for no charge to participants. I also stock Breakthrough filters right here in the Victoria / Sidney area (but you are not required to buy filters to attend this Meet Up). This Meet Up is oriented to intermediate ability levels or if you simply have the willingness to learn and observe something different in photography. Unfortunately there will not be time to read camera manuals or for myself to navigate your camera settings. Complete manual control of your camera with a tripod and remote are necessary. Bring your filters, but don't worry I have you covered with loaners if required. Water and a snack would be beneficial as we could easily be a few hours. Look forward to showing you how I create "Long Expos". Dave Hutchison www.davehutchison.ca
Welcome to the third Meet Up for this group. This is a casual Social Meet Up and with the goal for us to continue meeting and interacting with each other, make new friends, and enjoy photographing Hatley Castle and the Japanese Gardens at Royal Roads University. I will be staying late to photograph the castle at hour hour and beyond. All are welcome to tag along. Looking forward to seeing if fall is getting close at Hatley Castle on Sept 24. All ability levels are welcome. Please bring any camera gear you like and a tripod too. Please bring water and a snack as I believe the cafe up the hill closes at 5pm. Look forward to meeting new faces and seeing some familiar ones too. Dave Hutchison www.davehutchison.ca
"Helping photographers get past just getting started" - For those that missed the first Beginners Meet Up or want a refresher. Limited to 6 members. Originally I booked a room in Sidney after not finding anything suitable at a rec centre in Victoria. Then I found The Bent Mast, 512 Simcoe Street, Victoria by chance on a Google search later in the day. The room is self service and we can order snacks or a drink (but not essential to order a full meal). And the room is free so I can charge less for the event! This Meet Up event is a follow up from the popular Photography for Beginners Meet Up held back in August that sold out. The topics will be roughly the same with the aim to go more in depth as members feel more comfortable with their photography skills. This Meet Up is oriented to beginner ability levels or if you are new or need to brush up camera settings with your photography. All you need for this Meet Up is you camera gear, camera manual and the willingness to learn and try new techniques. This Meet Up is specifically limited to 6 members (system will show 7 as it included myself) which will allow me to provide one on one time with each member. Topics that are covered include: - camera settings and technical guidance (aperture, shutter speed, ISO) - composition guidelines and tips (rules vs guidelines) - gear considerations - and always more! I just love doing these types of sessions and seeing people advance so quickly! Payment by PayPal should be sorted out. $24 + 5% GST. Or you can e transfer $25.20 to [masked]. Secure online credit card invoicing is available by email too. Look forward to seeing you soon. Dave Hutchison www.davehutchison.ca
John Dean Provincial Park
Fall colours should be in full swing on Vancouver Island by mid October. John Dean Provinical Park in North Saanich can offer some interesting opportunities for nature photography especially with its slightly higher elevation. Lets hope for fall colours ... but there is always subjects to photograph in the forest. We will have fun regardless. This Meet Up is a free social event with no specific teachings offered. Goals are to continue to network and socialize with members (meet new friends) and offer photography help whenever possible. I am looking forward to getting to know everyone better too. Event is rain or shine!
