Captain Raynaud International Schooner Race
Schooner Racing Crew Required. The Capt. Raynaud International Schooner Race is an annual event hosted by the Schooner Martha Foundation, based in Port Townsend, Washington. This year it will take place on the Canadian side of the border. The race lasts for five days and the route will be shared with participants at a later date. All we know at this time is that it will take us on a wide-ranging five day voyage throughout the Gulf Islands. Each day is a separate race and each evening we anchor in a different location. On the evening of the fifth day everyone gathers aboard Martha, the host ship, for a potluck supper and awards. The next morning (day six), we'll continue our cruise for an additional five days, arriving back at Victoria late in the afternoon on July 31. We'll be sailing on Statia, a 60 foot schooner, owned by Skipper Claude Lacerte, a member of the Ahoy Sailors Meetup. We need seven crew members for the race, including the skipper and first mate. You should be reasonably fit, have some sailing experience and be able to follow instructions. Preference may be given to people who have sailed with us before, but everyone responding will be considered. This new Meetup software doesn't allow me to create a waiting list, but if you respond as "going" please consider yourself on a waiting list and we'll make final selections as the date draws near. Crew members are asked to share expenses at the rate of $50 a day. This includes accommodations aboard ship, plus all food and some related boat expenses. It does not include personal recreational beverages. One crew member will take on the role of cook, but everyone is expected to share galley duties as required. To learn more about the event, you may google Capt. Raynaud International Schooner Race and/or Schooner Martha Foundation. More information will be made available in this space over the coming weeks and months. NOTE There will be several opportunities for meetup members to become somewhat familiar with Statia in the coming months. If you RSVP for the race, we would be very interested in meeting you at one or more of these events. 1. Statia will start her sailing season with several day sails in March. I'll post these opportunities as Meetup events. 2. At the beginning of April, Statia will move from the Inner Harbour to Sidney for her annual maintenance. This trip will also be posted as a Meetup event. 3. Later in April, she'll be moving to her summer moorage near the yacht club. This will be another Meetup event.

What we're about

We are a group of people of all ages who enjoy boating, whether sailing or powering, and when not on the water, we get together to chat about being on the water.

Your level of seamanship and the style of your boat are not important, in fact, you don't even need a boat since you can crew!

Our activities include getting out on the water, learning about boating through instructional gatherings, and exchanging boating related stories through presentations members make of their trips.
