How KG provided Semantic Web with a second spring

Advanced technology never unfolds in a linear process. It comes along in hypes, cycles and often chaotic adoption patterns. AI underwent various seasons, going through springs and winters at a time. This also holds true for the Semantic Web and its manifold techniques, ideas and concepts, admired by some, condemned by others. Interestingly, recently the Semantic Web has attracted increased attention and appreciation as a focal innovation and critical component of contemporary AI systems. It is not without a sense of irony that the often debated and criticized Semantic Web experiences a new spring with knowledge graphs at its core. History repeating?
