Vilnius.js Meetup February 2018

Very excited to announce our first meetup for 2018!
This time, we will host Simonas Jončys from Wix Engineering whom will share from his vast experience as a front-end engineer and give a live-code demonstration, building a framework from scratch!

Abstract: The World Needs Yet Another Framework

While the framework wars are tearing the JavaScript world apart and everyone is searching for the best one out there, why not write your own? Come see me incoherently ramble about a lot of things JavaScript, while I try to simultaneously write a framework with a Vue.js like API. We will explore template strings, DOM traversal, custom directives, events, lists, scoping and change detection. Remembering the good ol’ days of Backbone.js and gasp innerHTML let’s revisit the question of just how much of abstraction is good enough for front-end development.

Bio: Simonas Jončys

I am a JavaScript developer writing React Native and Node.js code @ Wix.com. I first came across interactive development by figuring out how to make silly games using ActionScript 2 and Flash MX. During my six years of professional practice, I’ve created rich interactive experiences, applications and games using ActionScript 3 and JavaScript. I think that the recent years have introduced a lot of unnecessary complexity into how we rationalize front-end web development. Hopefully, by taking a step back and finding inspiration in the early years, we can strive for simplicity and change the paradigm.
