Mystery ‧ 72 mins

First up, is the 1937 mystery film, CHARLIE CHAN IN MONTE CARLO, that featured Warner Oland in his final film appearance as the beloved, Asian detective. Chan, vacationing in the Riviera, is pulled into a murder investigation when a casino messenger is killed and $1,000,000 goes missing. He is aided (and we use that term loosely) by number one son, Keye Luke.

MIDNIGHT – 1939
Comedy ‧ 95 mins
Starring - Claudette Colbert, Don Ameche and John Barrymore
Director - Mitchell Leisen

The second film, which will start at approximately 7:30, is the 1939 screwball comedy classic, MIDNIGHT. This is a wild take on the story of Cinderella, with Colbert as the rags-to-riches gal, and Barrymore as the fairy godmother! It concerns a chorus girl's (Colbert) effort to snag a rich husband, a taxi driver's (Ameche) efforts to snag the show girl, and a rich man's (Barrymore) effort to prevent his wife (Mary Astor) from leaving him. It features one of the funniest phone conversations ever recorded on film. Coming during the golden year of 1939 -- the year most consider the greatest in the history of cinema -- this movie is somewhat forgotten today. With all-time favorites such as; Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Stagecoach, Ninotchka and many others released in 1939, it was easy for a movie to be lost in the shuffle. However, MIDNIGHT is every bit as entertaining as those other classics, and if you haven't seen it, you're in for a treat.
