With Farm Bill negotiations stalled during the August recess, we have a critical window to take action. The Save Our Bacon Act (SOBA) is a dangerous federal preemption bill that threatens to eliminate or jeopardize more than 600 state and local animal protection and food safety laws. If passed, it would represent one of the most significant rollbacks of animal welfare protections in modern history.

Join Pro-Animal Oregon, Portland Changemakers, and Compassion in World Farming as we flood the phone lines of U.S. Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden! Our goal is to urge both Senators to issue public statements in opposition to this dangerous legislation before our upcoming rallies. A firm public stance from Oregon’s Senate leadership will send a clear signal to congressional leaders to keep SOBA out of the final Farm Bill.

Our goal is to flood their D.C. lines throughout the day with dozens of constituent calls. The staff track phone call volume closely, and an overwhelming surge of calls directly before our rallies will make our movement impossible to ignore. Every single call helps build momentum!

Save Our Bacon Act, a bill that would eliminate or jeopardize more than 600 state and local animal protection and food safety laws. If passed, it would represent one of the most significant rollbacks of animal welfare protections in modern history.

Join Pro-Animal Oregon, Portland Changemakers, Compassion in World Farming, and Lewis & Clark ALDF for a peaceful rally outside U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley's Portland office as we urge him to make a public statement in opposition to this dangerous legislation. A strong public stance from him could have a major impact on the future of this bill.

We're aiming to bring together 50–100 people to send a clear message: Oregonians oppose the Save Our Bacon Act and want Senator Merkley to publicly stand against it. We'll be sharing photos from the rally with his office, so every attendee makes a difference. The more people who show up, the harder it will be to ignore the growing opposition to this legislation among his constituents.

The rally itself will be peaceful, respectful, and welcoming to both experienced advocates and first-time activists.

Please arrive between 12:30pm and 12:45pm so we can begin promptly at 1.
