ABOUT THE TREK : If there is a classic trek in India, it has to be the Rupin Pass. This trek is like an orchestra, building up momentum with surprises in scenery every hour or so. With every step, the trek throws up a new vista to see, a new scenery to unfold. All along, to complement the scenery, the blue waters of the Rupin run along, sometimes rushing, at times gliding by. It culminates in the famous three stage water fall of the Rupin. In the higher reaches the trek passes through superb snow fields. The pass crossing through an echoing snow filled gully is an adrenaline high. The Rupin Pass trek has got it all: hanging villages, terrific forests, glacial meadows, hundreds of water falls and an exhilarating pass crossing. As a complete experience Rupin is the trek to do. TENTATIVE ITERNARY : Day 1 Dehradun to Dhaula 220 km drive by NH 507 - approx 10 hours Reach Base Camp and rest for Night Day2 Dhaula to Sewa Altitude 6,300 ft 9 km trek, 5 hrs Water available on the way Hot lunch at camp site Visit the village temple in the evening beautify with medals and coins Day3 Sewa to Bawta Altitude 6,888 ft 6 km trek, 4 hrs Moderate level of walk for first 3 hrs and steep ascent for rest 1 hr Wooden bridge on the way, which is the border of Uttarakhand and Himanchal Pradesh Day4 Bawta to Jakha Altitude 8,700 ft 5 km trek, 4 hrs Difficult level of ascent, steep climb Day5 Jakha to Dandreyash Thatch Altitude 11,680 ft 11 km trek, 8 hrs Day6 Dandreyash Thatch to Upper Waterfall Altitude 13,120 ft 3.5 km trek, 3.5 hrs Can refill water from small streams Most scenic day of the trek Day7 Upper Waterfall to Rupin Pass to Ronti gad Altitude 13,420 ft 9 km Trek, 10 hrs Difficult Level of ascent. Longest and most exciting day of the trek Steep ascent till the pass and then steep descend 200 mtrs of very steep ascent known as Rupin Gully, just before the pass. Leave camp site by 4:30 am Carry enough hot water from the camp site, Water sources are limited Packed lunch will be given Reached Ronti gad late in the evening Day8 Ronti gad to Sangla Altitude 8,800 ft 12 km trek, 8 hrs Moderate level of descent, continuously descent till Sangla Many water taps on the way Reach Sangla 1-2 pm Cab leaves from Sangla at 3 pm and reached Shimla by 1 am (please make your hotel booking at Shimla accordingly) EVENT COST : 15,300 INR ( Ex Dhaula to Sangla ) NOTE : From dehradun to Dhaula And Sangla to Shimla Transportation will be arranged with extra cost. DIFFICULTY : MODERATE MAX ALTITUDE : 13800 FEET BASE CAMP : KASOL DURATION : 6 DAYS 5 NIGHTS TENTATIVE ITINERARY : Day 1: Reaching Kasol. Check in to camp at Kasol. All the participants will undergo through registration procedure after breakfast and freshening up. Post lunch acclimatization walk to Chalal village. Orientation will be given in the evening. Day 2: Trek to Grahan village (4-5 hours) Trek will commence at 7 am from Kasol to Grahan. The trek starts from the centre of Kasol and keeps to the true left of the Grahan nalah. The trail is easy and frequently used by locals.The trail goes through lovely pine forests. The ascend is gentle and easy. One can effortlessly cover much distance in a couple of hours. After Grahan nalah the trail becomes rocky and climbing uphill, away from the right bank of the river. Buras (Rhododendrons) grows in the forest here. After a steep climb of about an hour, one reaches the village of Grahan, situated at the top. Overnight stay in tents at Grahan. Day 3: Grahan to Mung Thach (5-6 hours) In the morning we climb towards the north of camping ground at Grahan. Villagers can be seen using this path for Mung Thach. After walking for a while, one can see Mung Thach, Nagaru, and Sar Top on the mountain to the right. The trail also becomes steeper and leads into the woods. The slope becomes steeper and the path is confusing in some places. After crossing the forest we arrive to Mung Thach. Overnight in tents at Mung Thach.. Day 4: Mung Thach to Nagaru (4 hours) Trek from Mung Thach to Nagaru is a short but difficult part. The slope falls steeply to the valley. After crossing steep slope for a couple of hours, one finally reaches Nagaru campsite. Facing north, one can see magnificent mountains across the Parvati valley. Night is very cold due to the chilling wind. It is advisable to sleep early to avoid cold and the next day involves an early start. Day 5: Nagaru to Biskeri Thach via Sar Pass (7-8 hours) Next day we have to make an early start, as the climb is steep through the snow. Sar pass and the elevated peaks of the Tosh valley are now visible. As one reaches the top, the view is exhilarating. After that the slide is the most fun and completely safe as long as some precautions are taken. The slide takes one as far as a kilometre to a gentler slope of the valley. Valley arrives after walking for an hour from Sar Pass. We will then continue the trek through some dense rhododendron bushes towards Biskeri Thach campsite. Overnight stay in tents at Biskeri Thach. Day 6: Biskeri Thach to Barshaini and drive back to Kasol base camp ( 4-5 hours). Departure from Kasol. Biskeri presents a sublime view of the pine forests, the majestic mountains and the lovely grasslands. From Biskeri we will descend towards Pulga village. The descend is easy and takes around 4-5 hours to reach Pulga. From Pulga we will continue to descend to cross Parvati river and then climb to reach village Barshaini. It might not be the most adrenalin rush giving or the most sought after trek, but definitely it is a trek that will leave you in awe of this beautiful place. The variation in the trails is enormous; scenic landscapes, open green pastures and meadows, glacial valleys, easy access and an exceptional, adventurous and hair raising crossing of the pass makes this trekking expedition to Hampta pass an exciting one.
