WALK : NEW RIVER, CLISSOLD PARK and WOODBERRY WETLANDS

Angel

£5.00

New River Walk : We are going to walk the first stage of London's New River (just the first few miles, including Woodberry Wetlands, Clissold Park and Finsbury Park) which is in fact a man made open canal which first opened in 1633.

This stage of the walk along the New River provides an oasis of greenbelt through north London and includes one of London's newest wetlands centres, as well as the green acres of Clissold and Finsbury Parks.

WALK START: Today's walk starts at Islington (Angel Underground Station - Northern Line Zone 1) close to where over 400 years ago a stream of fresh water heading for London ended in a reservoir. Lack of fresh water in London was a serious problem and even today the new river contributes to London's fresh water demands.

WALK FINISH: Towards the finish we will be passing near both Manor House (Piccadilly Line) and Finsbury Park Stations (Piccadilly, Victoria and National Rail). The walk finishes at a large pub (converted cinema) near Holloway Road Underground Station (Piccadilly line).

Length of walk 5 miles - approx. 2 hours at a steady pace.

Please note that the walk will be continuous with no stops (in order to maintain social distancing) and it is your responsibilty to keep walkers ahead in view and to follow the direction of the walk.

RAIN POLICY: Light rain will not prevent this event from taking place. However if there is heavy rain, we may reschedule this walk, check back to this site on the morning of the event. Final decision will be taken at 9:30am.
