Details

Weinberg Campus

hosts a unique selection of technology companies and leading research institutions. While everybody maintains excellent international connections, have we actually met the players from across the street?

Are you a scientist or tech company representative at Weinberg Campus? Please join our meetup in order to:

• listen to impulse talks from both science and business

• grow and strengthen your personal network with peers from both "worlds"

• in a casual after-work atmosphere.

Speaker info

Prof. Dr. Lea Ann Dailey

Born and raised in central California, USA, Lea Ann Dailey first came to Germany as an exchange student in high school before taking the decision to study Pharmacy at the Philipps-University in Marburg, Germany. She stayed there to complete her PhD on the topic of developing polymeric nanoparticles for the controlled release of drugs in the lung. She continued working in the field of formulation science for inhalation therapies during her postdoctoral fellowship at Nektar Therapeutics (now Novartis, San Carlos, CA, USA), the company that developed the pioneering technology to be able to treat diabetic patients with inhaled insulin. At Nektar, she worked on novel drug formulations for inhaled antibiotic treatments. In 2005, Lea Ann accepted a position as Lecturer in Drug Delivery at King’s College London, UK, where she expanded her interests in nantoxicology, with an emphasis on investigating the safety of nanomedicines for inhalation treatment. Through this work, she became interested in the safety testing of novel diagnostics, many of them nanoparticle-based, which has become another important pillar of her research. In April 2016, she joined the Institute of Pharmacy at the Martin Luther University, where she continues to expand her research in the design and safety testing of novel nanomedicines and nanodiagnostics.

Dr. Steffen Panzner, CEO, Lipocalyx

Steffen Panzner is CEO of Lipocalyx, a leading developer of drug delivery systems for nucleic acids, which he founded in 2011. He is the main inventor of Viromer® and Smarticles® technologies, among other delivery solutions for protein depots or small molecule targeting. Steffen's reputation to be a constant innovator and drug delivery expert has been building in the industry since 1999, as founder, CEO and later CSO of Novosom AG. Dr. Panzner earned a diploma in biochemistry from the University of Halle and a Ph.D. in cell biology from the Humboldt University of Berlin. He enjoyed doing research at Harvard, the Bioacademy of Athens and the European Synchrotron Facility in Grenoble.
