(Come early to network and for support!)
SPEAKERS: Laurie Serafino and Nidya Paredes of Serafino Paredes LLP, Education Lawyers
Laurie and Nidya will walk parents of children with special needs through the steps they can take to have a successful IEP meeting. They will discuss the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which governs special education, and cover key terms every parent should know before their IEP meeting. They will discuss how to prepare for an IEP, including what to bring to the IEP meeting and how to “meaningfully” participate during the meeting, They will talk about who is required to be present at the meeting and whether or not they should sign the IEP document. They will also cover how to review the IEP document and prepare a response. Finally, they will discuss conflict resolution options available to parents who have reached an impasse with the school district.

http://www.chadd.org/portals/0/Content/CHADD/ADHDAwareness/adhd-awareness-header-2017.jpg CHADD celebrates ADHD Awareness Month each October to improve the lives of the 17 million children and adults in the United State living with ADHD, their family members, teachers, and professionals working with them.
The 2017 theme is “Knowing is Better: ADHD Across the Life Span.” It’s better for parents to know that ADHD might be part of the picture so they can seek out the help their children need; it’s better for young adults to know about their ADHD so they might arrange for appropriate accommodations in school or the workplace; and it’s better for adults to recognize their ADHD instead of feeling destined to a life of underachievement and frustration.
CHADD is part of the ADHD Awareness Month Coalition, which provides a wealth of information at www.adhdawarenessMonth.org (https://chadd.us16.list-manage1.com/track/click?u=7c464395c7bf585a6cee52a67&id=d6c2a763b6&e=3c7990b0c3).
