3D laser scanning and point clouds are relatively new to the building design and construction industry. Over the past several years there has been a convergence of hardware advances, software technologies, and scanning service providers that is making this process a very viable option for documenting existing building and site conditions.

During the presentation, we'll discuss the basics of laser scanning, then dive into the process for using the point cloud generated from the laser scan. Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD are now very compatible with point cloud data and there are a number of ways of creating geometry from the data captured. Some processes are very manual while others are automated. Come learn how you can transform those existing conditions into very accurate 3D models and reduce the number of trips to the jobsite.
