Welcome to the WP Havering meetup, a monthly WordPress meetup held at The Retailery on Romford Market on the 3rd Tuesday of the Month.

This month we are delighted to welcome Corinne Welsh as our guest speaker, talking on the topic of:

Introduction to Child Themes

This will be a how-to “Get started with themes in WordPress”. It will cover, briefly, the history of making things look pretty on the web and good practice in WordPress themes. We will look at the structure of WordPress and the structure of a theme. It will answer the question “What is a child theme?” and address why you would (or would not) make one. We will, then, walk through the steps of building a child theme.

The talk is relevant to WordPress beginners. It will be interesting for anyone who wants to learn about how themes work and is new to child themes. For knowledgeable theme-builders there will be the opportunity to look at cute pictures of cats and share your experience.
Corinne Welsh is passionate about free and open source software, and lifelong learning. She runs a training and development company to indulge both these passions. Corinne built her first website in the 1990s and has been using WordPress to build websites since 2009. She is available to hire for a range of projects.

DO NOT PARK IN ROMFORD MARKET ITSELF, we had one of our guys get a ticket as the car park closes at 7pm (there was absolutely no-one about, it's a joke). Use the multi story Romford Market car park, it is a paid car park so please bring change!
