What we're about

• Welcome to the Long Beach Area Walking Group where we walk for fitness, fun, and friendship!

• Our walks and hikes range from 2-6 mile walks, accommodating all levels of fitness.

• Our activities are geared to folks 45 and over, but all ages are welcome.

• Our activities take place in Long Beach or nearby.

•We also get together for other fun activities -- kayaking, movies, dining out and adventures, and summer concerts in the Long Beach parks.

• There are no dues, but we do accept donations, for the many activities we offer providing fun, friendship, and healthful eercise!!!

• Please note, that for reasons of safety and liability, all member should wear proper athletic gear on our walks, hikes, or other activities. We recommend water, hats, and sunscreen for outdoor activities. Athletic shoes (sneakers, tennis shoes, or hiking shoes) are required for participation at our hikes and walks.

Meetup starts by the cement bench where Appian Way meets the water.

Walk along the canal and around the outside island - it's a great walk with a few steps (optional) thrown in. Walk rating: ADVANCE: - Variable Terrain: Flat (Optional Steps) Distance:

Est 3.5 Miles. Time: 1.00 Hour

This is a brisk walk! This is not a stroll in the park. This walk is for advanced walkers (you must be able to keep up with the group). If you are just starting to exercise or walk, this is not the walk for you.

Flexible Route: There are several places where you can take a shortcut or stop and wait for the rest of the group, if necessary. Route: From the cement bench (where Appian Way meets the water), follow Vista Del Golfo (turns in to E Corso Di Napoli) Follow the Riva Alto Canal on the inside of the big island Cross canal at E The Toledo bridge on the far side of the inner island R on Rivo Alto Canal (inner island) Cross to small (outside) island at W Neapolitan Ln (bridge) Walk around the small island Cross back to inner island at W Neapolitan Ln (bridge) Walk completely around the inner island on Rivo Alto Canal Cross back to the big island at E Neapolitan Ln (bridge) Turn right and follow E Corso Di Napoli & Vista Del Golfo back to starting point.

THIS WALK IS FOR BEGINNERS BUT WILL REQUIRE SOME ENDURANCE FOR THE HILLS & VALLEYS Walk rating: Moderate Terrain: Steep Hills, Stairs, Mostly Paved Distance: 6+ Miles. Time: 2.0 + Hours

Dogs are welcome if they will keep the pace, on a leash, and friendly.

Boundries: Temple, 21st, Cherry, Skyline, Panarama The Route: Up Hill to Obispo Ave (R), to Llewellyn Dr (L), up the path to Discovery Well Park, up the stairs, to Temple/Panarama (R), to Molino Ave (L), to Slyline Ave (L). Down Temple to 21st St (R) 21st Street to Cherry (R) Cherry to Hill St (R) Hill St to St Louis (L) and take the trail at the top left At this point you can walk the dirt trails and find your way to the top but it's hard to describe so I'll avoid that part. At the top of the trail, follow the road (Ocean View Dr) out to Burnett/Skyline Dr. (R) Follow Skyline Dr. up the hill At the top of the hill, cross over to the Hilltop Park and walk around the west side (great view) to the other side. Walk around the Hilltop Park again back to Panarama Follow Panarama/Temple Ave, 20th St. (L), Obispo Ave (L), Hill St (R). to get back to your car. Optional Hills to Hike: Ohio, Stanley, Junipero, Skyline Optional : Paninis Redondo Ave and PCH for coffee breakfast/lunch.

Walk in El Dorado Nature Center

This is a pleasant semi-shaded walk in the woods, in the city, followed by coffee or lunch at a local coffee shop.

There is free parking in the library lot at 2900 Studebaker, Long Beach, CA 90815, which is approx. one mile from the Nature Center entrance. Alternatively, you may park in the Nature Center lot (currently $7 for the day or annually $60/ $35 for seniors).

2nd Street Beach Walk

Walk down Roycroft Ave to (right on) Ocean Blvd. Turn left at 4-way stop sign Bennet Ave. Follow the Walking/Bike path to the Pier. After walking the Pier walk the Walking/Bike path along the ocean to the end (Bayshore Ave). Turn right and head to the Peninsula. Turn right on 55th PL and walk the boardwalk Seaside WK to 62nd PL (4 palm trees). Turn left cross 4-way stop to the other side, left on Bayshore WK until is ends at 55th PL. Turn right on Ocean Blvd. First right on BayShore Ave. Summer months walk the street otherwise use the sidewalk. Turn left on 2nd street returning to Roycroft Ave. ************* RAIN CANCELS! ***************** Optional coffee after the walk, so many places to chose from.
