What we're about

I am a Norwegian living in London - I am addicted to nature - and I want to share this enthusiasm with other like minded people who also feel a sense of pure joy and euphoria when spending time outdoors. I am a firm believer in that nature holds the solution to a calm and balanced mind, and that either walking, cycling, running or just simply taking the time to sit still and be present outdoors can relieve stress and worries.

This group is all about mindful walking and hiking (and the occasional yoga, cycling and kayaking trip too) both in the U.K. and in my home country Norway. I will also be looking to do a hiking trip to Italy where we shall be enjoying Italy's amazing food, wine and rolling hills. This summer (2019), Wanderlust had its first trips to both Oslo and Lofoten in Norway where we did kayaking and hiking, and watched the midnight sun from the beach. It was a truly unforgettable experience.

We will return to Lofoten both in March next year (2020) for our winter and Northern Lights trip, and in July for the summer and Midnight Sun trip. Perhaps you would like to join us?

Another hiking paradise of mine is the Lake District in Cumbria, England. A place I simply cannot get enough of, and where we have been returning to for the 5th time this year. A new trip will be published soon. In addition to this we have also published our first Yoga & Hike weekend in Pembrokeshire in Wales this October, so there will be loads to look forward to.

I hope some of my upcoming trips will trigger your wanderlust, and that you´d like to join me for a few days of guided hiking in our wondrous nature - together with like minded people who share your passion for being outdoors.

Epping Forest Circular - Plus tea, cakes and bell ringing at High Beach Church!

Loughton Underground Station

If you live in or near London you don’t necessarily have to travel for hours just to be surrounded by trees and tranquil nature! Epping Forest is a beautiful, ancient woodland in very close proximity to the hustle and bustle of the city with the central line serving several stations. This is a circular walk of approx. 8 miles (12km) from Loughton Underground Station to High Beach and down towards Queen Elizabeth's Hunting Lodge, stretching along a lovely green environment with ponds and small lakes, historic monuments and wildlife. We shall also be paying a visit to High Beach Church where the lovely Jane will meet and greet us with her hearty homemade cake and tea. For those who wish, then there will be a (free) tour up to the old church bell tower, where we can put our Campanologist (bell ringing) skills to the test, just like the famous hunch back of Notre Dame, Quasimodo! :-) The walk should finish at about 4.30pm and include a tea and cake stop at the church, however the time may be slightly earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace. We will meet at Loughton Underground Station and then make our way through Loughton Brook Valley before reaching the archaeological site of Loughton Camp. We shall then continue towards High Beach (view point) and High Beach Church where Jane will be expecting us for tea and cake. On our way back we will walk in the direction of Chingford, where Queen Elizabeth’s Hunting Lodge is located. We will follow a path which will take us to the edge of Connaught Water before reaching Strawberry Hill Pond. The last 15 min walk will be on roads back towards Loughton Underground Station. Remember to bring/buy lunch (before the walk) if you wish to have some solid food and not just tea and cake :) Feel free to give me a ring on[masked] on the day should you have any trouble finding us, or send me a private message if you have any queries/concerns etc. Please note that this walk is subject to a small nominal £5 meetup organisers fee payable on the day. All my walks are also subject to a disclaimer which I kindly ask you to read before signing up: https://www.meetup.com/Wanderlust-Walks-and/pages/27794739/Information_and_Disclaimer/ Hope to see you for a lovely Sunday walk. Happy Trails! :)

NORWAY - A wintery trip to the Lofoten Islands

- N O R W A Y & L O F O T E N - Northern lights, rugged mountains, deep fjords. Norway is all that and more. Wanderlust Walks is finally arranging the very first wintery trip to Norway in March 2020 so save the date and come join me for when I travel back home to the land of the Vikings to chase the Northern Lights, kayak the frozen islands of Lofoten, visit the Viking Museum, road trip Lofoten from east to west, go fishing with the locals and much more. Every outing in this region is framed by rugged mountain tops that rise straight from the sea. ******************************** Update 02/08/2019: I am exited to let you know that I have managed to secure 15 beds at a great fisherman's lodge where we will be staying in real fishermen´s cabins (´rorbu´) right down by the pier, overlooking the majestic Lofoten mountains. This wonderful lodge is located in Ballstad, the central part of Lofoten, which has the most dramatic scenery. The fisherman´s lodges comes with private bathroom and kitchen, so that we can cook our own food if we wish to do so. Sleeping arrangements will be determined closer to the time and so you will need to be flexible in terms of female/male room share. PS: I might need an additional driver so please let me know if you can volunteer! Please note: In order for me to make this trip as affordable as possible I have excluded certain activities from the total price which means you can choose for yourself if you wish to take part or not. The excluded activities are: -kayak trip (approx. £95) -viking museum (approx. £16) -boat trip on a traditional fisherman's boat (approx. £75) Keep in mind that these are the prices per 2/8/2019 and may change or fluctuate depending on the exchange rate. The price will include: 🔹4 nights accommodation in a "rorbu", a real fisherman's cabin 🔹Transport to and from the airport + all transport around on the island 🔹Northern Lights Chase in the evenings 🔹Daytime sightseeing, visiting the charming villages of Henningsvær, Kabelvåg, Svolvær, Reine and Å (the southernmost point on mainland Lofoten) 🔹Walk and hot chocolate/wine on one of many beautiful, white-sand beaches The below is not included in the price: Flights (around £200 via Oslo) Food expenses (you can spend as much or as little as you wish as you have the option to buy your own food in the supermarket and prepare at home). Some activities; as mentioned above. ********************************* On this trip we will also get to know Lofoten’s colorful fishing villages with the characteristic “rorbuer” (fishermen’s cabins, of which we will be staying in one), local handicrafts, food, and rich history that dates back to the Vikings. The exact program for the weekend will be weather dependent and planned closer to the time. We are, of course, hoping to see the Northern Lights on this trip (in additon to many other things!), but please keep in mind that the Aurora Borealis is a natural phenomenon which can be skittich and elusive, meaning there are no guarantee of seeing it. To see the Northern Lights, the sky needs to be dark and clear of any clouds, and they most commonly appear between 17:00 and 02:00. If you would like to join us then please RSVP Yes and carry out a deposit payment of £150 as per the below. The remaining amount of £250 will need to be paid by bank transfer by Friday 25th October 2019: The account details are: Lloyds Bank Account name: MONICA NICHOLLS Sort Code:[masked] Account Number:[masked] Please note that only payment can secure your bed. All trip payments are non-refundable and non-transferable, however, you might try and sell your space to another member of the same sex if you find that you are unable to attend. Please let me know in that case so that I can try and help you. By signing up to this trip you agree to the following disclaimer and important information: https://www.meetup.com/Wanderlust-Walks-and/pages/27794739/Information_and_Disclaimer/ Happy Trails!:)
