Regardless of whether fashion or the planet is your first love, if you're curious about designing a stylish but more sustainable life for yourself, this workshop hosted by Fashion Takes Action and Women's Healthy Environments Network, is for you!
The inspirational stuff you'll get to learn and discuss:
- understand where your clothes come from,
- get an overview of the 7Rs of Fashion practices that will demystify the sustainable wardrobe and make it easy for you to take action without spending a cent.
- brainstorm with others on how to repair and repurpose YOUR clothes (bring items such a shoes, jackets, jeans, skirts, etc you'd like to discuss for crowdsourced advice)
- create the beginnings of a style inspiration board! (bring magazines -- we'll provide the scissors and glue)
And we'll feed you -- pizza + a beverage (wine or non-alcoholic) comes with your ticket. https://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-7rs-of-fashion-workshop-tickets-45073950399
It used to be that there were 2 cycles in the fashion calendar -- Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter, but now with fast fashion, there can be as many as 50+ micro-seasons. That means new stuff going on racks for us to purchase every week!
Most of us can easily list off the 3Rs -- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, but our global fashion consumption problem is so off the charts, it’s time for a few more Rs -- Research, Repurpose, Repair & Rent!
In this workshop led by Sarah Peel and Laura McClure, slow fashion educators at Fashion Takes Action, you'll learn all about the life cycle of your pair of favourite jeans, dive into the 7Rs of Fashion, and learn why developing a personal style can be a powerful first step to a more sustainable wardrobe -- and taking climate leadership, too!
You are encouraged to bring a design or fashion magazine you don't mind cutting up (we'll be making a vision board!) and one item from your wardrobe (garment, footwear or accessory) that is bound for the donation bin because of rips, stains, fit, boredom, style etc. (we'll be sharing repurposing and repairing ideas!)
$16.95 in advance, $22.60 at the door (HST included)
Hosted in honour of Earth Month and Fashion Revolution.
