This is a group for folks who want to have fun doing improv, to gain skill, to become more relaxed in your own skin, to laugh a lot, to make friends and to surprise ourselves with spontaneity. I started this group because I used to take improv classes in NYC, and loved it. I'm not a performer or theatrical person, just someone who likes to be inventive with an inventive crew, and have fun.
This group will take shape as we go! I expect we'll do loosening-up exercises, and some structured improv games and scenes, and get more exploratory as we go.
You don't need to be a performer! If you are an actor/actress and want to expand your talents, that's great. If you are just looking for a diversion and some laughter, that's great, too. (That's me, really.) No expectations.
It's also not a comedy class! My NYC teacher taught us this: "Don't *try* to be funny. Just be honest to the scene you're creating. Just do normal life. Normal life is plenty funny." Life is also puzzling, and sad, and touching, and joyful.
So come ready to play, to be a bit nutty, to be in-the-moment, and we'll see where it leads.
