What we're about

This is a group for those interested in learning Argentine Tango at all levels including absolute beginners, and/or enjoying this wonderful dance at social events (Milongas). It is for those living or studying in the general area of Warwickshire and the West Midlands and for tango enthusiasts visiting the area who are looking for somewhere to dance. Most of the events, but not all, take place in Leamington Spa or Warwick both of which are fairly easily reachable via the A46 or M40 and connecting roads, or bus or train.

Start, or hone up, Argentine Tango via online classes

Online event

It will be a while before normal tango classes and social events can restart. Meanwhile there are online sessions for all levels including total beginners. These can be very useful anyway: for total beginners they give the opportunity to try out tango and get started so that you will be able to make the most of classes when they begin, and for more advanced dancers there is the chance to learn more and to perfect your dance by repeated practice. It's not so good if you do not have someone to practice with but some sessions are designed for such situations, eg the Oria's "Booster Sessions" and Dante's Leaders sessions, and others can be very useful. The zoom meetings on Wednesday mornings are there mainly because that was the only way I could see to bring certain classes to your attention by making an "event". I will be there if anyone would like to chat about tango, and happy to see you, but that is not the point of this "event" so you are welcome to ignore it! I'll advertise online classes given by Argentine Tango professionals who have taught recently for Tango Warwick, concentrating on Jenny & Ricardo Oria, who are regular guest teachers and performers at our annual festivals and have been associated with us since the beginning. They are among the most popular teachers in the UK. If you want different styles or approaches to online classes both Dante Culcuy and Raquel Greenberg have been very popular with and I've included links to their classes. Both Raquel & the Orias also advertise private classes online. JENNY & RICARDO ORIA: See https://www.oriatango.com/online-tango-menu for the Oria's menu. Their main offering consists of many instructional videos which you can get unlimited access to for £14 per month. These include a free taster session. From Aug 11th they also have half hour live "booster " sessions on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday at 9.15 for £5 a go, designed for leaders or followers. FOR TOTAL BEGINNERS the £14 deal would be ideal. This gives access to many short videos. Here are Ricardo Oria's comments to me: "We not sure if you need to suggest an order but a possible order could be as below. We would imagine that for someone starting off, they would need to revisit some of the earlier classes to remind themselves of details that you just couldn’t get the first time. For example, embrace, change of weight and walking are all going to make more sense when re-visited. These ones are also in an ‘Explainers’ category. We are planning to add a beginner turn into the basics series soon too. There also are some technique classes in the improver section that would be useful for some more able beginners. Welcome to tango Change of weight and setting off together El abrazo - The embrace La Caminata: Walking in Tango Walking on the outside All about Forwards Ochos pivots Cadencia (rocking steps) Exploring the Cross Cortes technique Backwards ochos Variations on the Cross. " There are lots more advanced videos for those who have done more. DANTE CULCUY & OXFORD ACADEMY: From Dante " Join my Leaders Live Classes every Thursday via Zoom - 40 minutes of hard work - Class in ENGLISH (6.20pm UK time / 7.20pm Europe time. Payment by bank transfer or Paypal, super affordable price! Contact me [masked] or WhatsApp [masked] " Also see the Facebook page. RAQUEL GREENBERG: She offers live online classes for ladies and milonga classes. See http://www.raquel-tango.com/news/online-classes. Try it and see!!! Happy dancing---and hope we can do it properly one day soon. David.
