What we're about

This is a group for those interested in learning Argentine Tango at all levels including absolute beginners, and/or enjoying this wonderful dance at social events (Milongas). It is for those living or studying in the general area of Warwickshire and the West Midlands and for tango enthusiasts visiting the area who are looking for somewhere to dance. Most of the events, but not all, take place in Leamington Spa or Warwick both of which are fairly easily reachable via the A46 or M40 and connecting roads, or bus or train.

Enjoy Argentine Tango class, milonga classes, & practica with Tango Warwick

MILONGA will be the topic of the second and third Tango Warwick classes this Friday 24th May. 😃. The first class, at 6.30 , will be designed with the recently started beginners in mind, but will benefit dancers of all levels. Milonga is a specially fast (usually) and (fun) dance associated to Argentine Tango, and is regularly part of social dancing at milongas (a different use of the word!). See for example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxJ_OzuUh4k Tango Warwick classes continue at St Mary's Leamington Spa on 24th, 31st May, 14th June, 21st June,... The classes will be with our superb and highly popular resident teachers Luis Rodrigues & Elizabeth Knock who come up from London for us. They will continue on Fridays apart from the first Friday of each month. There will be the usual more advanced courses later in evening, restricted to more experienced dancers and by permission of the teacher. Most students find joining in the basic classes useful, or essential, even while taking the most advanced ones. Newcomers will be made very welcome- so come if you can! To round off an enjoyable and instructive evening there is a practica/ social dancing session, with some wine, soft drinks & cake. • You don't need a partner, Argentine Tango is a social dance and it is standard practice to change partners during the classes. The philosophy of Luis & Elizabeth is to teach what you need for social tango dancing, anywhere in the world with anyone who is ready to dance, and their dancing style is of beautiful simplicity. The timing for Friday May 24th is as usual: 6.30pm to 7.30pm Beginners & Essential Tango Techniques {Please arrive a bit before the start if you possibly can, to help the class to begin on time.} 7.15 pm to 8.15 pm Improvers Milonga & Essential Tango Techniques 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm Intermediates Milonga class 9.30 (approx) to 10.30 (approx) Practica • Teachers: Elizabeth Knock & Luis Alberto Rodriguez Predieri Prices: Beginners Classes £8 (£5 for students with student Id), together with Improvers class £10 (£8). Other classes £8 (£6) for one, £12 (£10) for the whole evening. Practica: Free with classes otherwise £2 TANGO WARWICK HAS A WEB SITE: https://tangowarwick.org

Practice Argentine Tango at Warwick SPACE

Warwick SPACE,

NB: THESE EVENTS WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON THE FIRST & THIRD WEDNESDAYS OF EACH MONTH, NOT WEEKLY! This is an opportunity to practice Argentine Tango. You will need to have done some tango in order to have something to practice! but a class or two should be enough. These sessions are regular events with tango dancers who want to improve their dancing whilst they enjoy it. It is a friendly, totally relaxed and sociable time with a small number of dancers of wildly different levels, and tea & coffee and sometimes cakes. There is a decent floor and music. It is likely that you will be able to dance with or be advised by a more experienced dancer (especially in the first hour) but you can easily avoid that if you prefer! This is not a substitute for classes and the other participants are not teachers, though they are usually happy to advise inexperienced dancers who are about to take classes or are taking regular classes. It is organised by Tom Dillon, see https://www.facebook.com/groups/647271378622582/ Drop by anytime, for any time. PS It costs £5, to be discretely slipped into a box on Tom's desk by his music. PPS If the door appears shut ring the bell!

Milonga "La Ideal", with Jose Fernandez & Martina Waldman

NO CLASSES AT ST MARY's on 7th June-instead an opportunity for social dancing, this time with a performance of top level show tango, and with music chosen by a very popular DJ: Kirsty Bennett. This is the June edition of Tango Warwick's monthly milonga: the social event for tango dancers in this region. We are delighted that Jose Fernadez & Martina Waldman will return to Tango Warwick for this milonga. Jose was World Champion in Tango Stage in 2008 and Jose & Martina have performed and taught across the world, including in the theatre show "Immortal Tango" in Sadler's Wells. They will perform for us, giving a wonderful opportunity to see spectacular show tango at its highest level. This milonga will also see the return of Kirsty Bennett as guest DJ. Her choice of music when she DJ'd for our February milonga was very popular, and we are looking forward to more of it! As well as this the special edition will include the usual warm welcome, traditional music, good company, lovely dances waiting to be had, delightful vibes, plus nibbles with some wine for early arrivers---but BYOB if you wish! At the door: £12 / (£8 - students). 8.30 pm to 00.30am (approx). Warwick SPACE is on the north side of the main road north of the river between Leamington and Warwick. Next to the Millwright Arms and almost opposite a Sainsbury local. The floor is very nice, the acoustics, great. Parking is plenty around the venue in residential areas but do not park on the pub next door or in Sainsbury’s – people have been known to be fined there! It is a short walk from Warwick railway station. There are several B&B's nearby and hotels etc in Leamington & Warwick.
