What we’re about
The Washington Buddhist Vihara is one of the first Theravada Buddhist temples established in the United States. Many well-known masters and authors have taught here, including Bhikku Bodhi and Bhante Gunaratana, who is the head abbot at Bhavana Society. Many find great peace and happiness by practicing meditation in the community of meditators here at the Vihara. The Vihara (normally) offers group meditation sessions and discussion from the Theravada tradition, recognized by scholars as the most ancient Buddhist tradition and the first to transcribe the words of the Buddha.
May you be well, happy, healthy and peaceful.
Note:
If you are moved to make an optional monetary donation to the Vihara, a link is provided here for you convenience. While the Vihara depends upon donations, donations are never required for any event. Current funding needs are for multivitamins for monks in Sri Lanka.
