New Year Social and Photoshare / Critique
Details
With the new year, I wanted to reflect on the past and let everyone know what I have in store for 2017.
This meetup group, founded in 2012, has been the outlet for me to establish myself as a professional workshop instructor. I have loved my experiences so far, and thankfully the members have responded well to the classes over the years. I am very proud to report a near perfect 5 star rating over 40+ meetups. As newcomers have graced Meetup and other forms of social gatherings, such as photowalks, have gained in popularity, I maintain that my workshops cater to a specific goal: to improve as a [landscape] photographer. If you like how I create and finish my images, then I encourage you to consider the value of a paid workshop to learn how I approach planning, capture, and processing of my work. You will also meet like-minded photographers who go beyond the want to just meet socially or promote social media.
As my personal life goes, I have found myself with less and less time to do more and more things :) Therefore, as you may have noticed, I have offered less workshops this year than any other since I started in 2012. My plan going forward is to offer two paid workshops a month in the local DC vicinity to shoot and/or process landscape and nature photography. I will establish a schedule ahead of time to allow participants to plan attendance.
To end the year right and to reinforce what this meetup is all about, I am hosting an End of Year Social and Photoshare / Image Critique. Critique is an integral part of learning as a artist, and is all but lost in today's social media frenzy. I will introduce you to the concepts and goals of effective critiquing, which can improve you as an artist as you recieve critiques, listen to critiques on others, and also give critiques. During this afternoon, I will present a set of my top images from 2016 as well as the stories behind them and some self-critiques. I will also ask for participants to provide 1-2 images ahead of the meetup for me to critique during this forum.
This will be a great opportunity to meet me, your fellow photographers, and hear and recieve some critique on landscape photography. You will also have a chance to learn about what I offer in my field workshops.
I will have light snacks and wine available to make the evening that much more fun!
Let me know of any questions. And happy holidays!
