What we're about

Do you love watching musicals? Are you looking to meet friends who also love musicals? Then join this Meetup group and attend musicals in the area with other musical fans.

In order to open this Meetup group to enough people for us to access group ticket discounts, Meetup charges me about $90 every 6 months. Making a contribution will help sustain this group in the long run and help us all get discount tickets in the future. Contribute here (https://secure.meetup.com/Washington-Musicals-Meetup/contribute/)!

Hadestown

Location visible to members

Join us for Hadestown on October 24! I will start passing out tickets at 7PM, possibly 6:50PM. I'll add a comment once I find a bench to sit to rest my arthritic knee. The show starts at 7:30PM, but come early because they will be checking vaccination cards and IDs, which will slow down the entry process a bit. The show is supposed to last 2.5 hours.

Because of COVID, we will not have a pre-show dinner.

Our group sales ticket order has been finalized and paid for. Thank you to everyone who responded about coming!

If you do not have a ticket and want one, please let me know how many tickets you want and the price range. You can check out the map at https://www.kennedy-center.org/whats-on/explore-by-genre/theater/2021-2022/hadestown/ to let me know if you have particular seat preferences.
- Orchestra: $80.03 (anything marked $99 on the map), $71.05 (rear corners, anything marked $79 on the map)
- 1st Tier: $62.01 (rear/sides, anything marked $85 on the map)
- 2nd Tier: $43.99 (rear/sides, anything marked $55 on the map)

Payment is due up-front, as our time to reserve group tickets with the Kennedy Center without paying has expired. I accept Venmo, PayPal, Cashapp, Zelle, and Apple Pay.

Welcome to Hadestown, where a song can change your fate. Winner of eight 2019 Tony Awards® including Best Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award® for Best Musical Theater Album, this acclaimed new show by celebrated singer-songwriter Anaïs Mitchell and innovative director Rachel Chavkin (Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) is a love story for today...and always. Intertwining two mythic tales—that of young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and that of King Hades and his wife Persephone—Hadestown is a haunting and hopeful theatrical experience that grabs you and never lets go.

Recommended for age 8 and up.

Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend and 2015 Kennedy Center Honoree, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her 20s, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ’n roll. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical tells the Tony® and Grammy®-winning inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.

Featuring a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil—including “I Feel the Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You've Got a Friend,” and the title song—Beautiful took home two 2014 Tony Awards® , as well as a 2015 Grammy® for Best Musical Theater Album, and features a book by Tony® and Academy Award®-nominated writer Douglas McGrath with direction by Marc Bruni and choreography by Josh Prince.
