Dancing in Downtown Silver Spring
On the second Thursday of every month, enjoy the fun as well as the mental and physical health benefits of dancing with others! No experience required: each session starts at 7:00 pm with a 30-minute lesson, and then dances are “called” from 7:30-10 (this means the steps are called out loud so you can follow along). All levels of experience are welcome. October's dance features music by Frog Hammer with caller Andrea Nettleton! The Contra Dances are presented by Carpe Diem Arts in partnership with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington and Washington Revels, with support from BE ACTIVE: Montgomery County Department of Recreation. TICKETS: Free to first-timers! $10 general; $8 FSGW, BFMS, CDSS members & Washington Revels; $5 students and those without income LEARN MORE: &

What we're about

An established cultural institution in the greater Washington area for over 30 years, Washington Revels is dedicated to reviving and celebrating cultural traditions — music, dance, storytelling, drama and ritual — that have bound communities together over the ages and across the globe.

Staged or informal, large or small, Revels celebrations involve adults and children of all ages, mixing professionals and nonprofessionals. Audience participation is a hallmark: singing, dancing or becoming part of the drama, Revels audiences are always an integral part of the productions. Whether participating in a Revels celebration from the audience or stage, people invariably leave with smiles on their faces and joy in their hearts.

Carpe Diem Arts is dedicated to serving diverse audiences with quality arts experiences, representing a broad range of cultural traditions and artistic disciplines. Concerts, arts outreach programs, summer camps, community dances - all are examples of Carpe Diem programs in both the Washington DC area and Maryland's Eastern Shore. We also partner with other area non-profits to produce fundraising events, showcases, festivals, summer arts institutes, and other cultural offerings ~ celebrating the arts and building strong living-learning communities.
