New Campaign starting

Hi all, Happy Thanksgiving.

In a previous update I mentioned I was going to start a D&D campaign utilizing Gary Gygax's World of Greyhawk/1E/2E modules. Some seem interested so this is the official message giving more details on some old school gaming.

So as I said in the original update, this was an idea I had when Gygax passed away but unfortunately I just got around to organizing things. The campaign will be set in Greyhawk (duh) right before the Greyhawk Wars. Everything will start in the City of Greyhawk with the Zero Level character creation option in the World of Greyhawk hardbound book. From there it will be one or two 1st level modules before moving onto the Village of Hommlet and the Temple of Elemental Evil. If we're still going strong after that, then we can move into the G-D-Q series or the S series.

But you're saying "Hey, I played those already! Boring!" A few points. One, have you really played them recently? These things are collecting dust for 99% of people who own them. With the passage of time and all the other games you've played, do you *really* remember all that much about them? Two, so what? These modules are a blast and if you are a fan of D&D, especially early D&D, these things never get old. Third, I will weave these modules into a campaign, setting them against a larger story in the World of Greyhawk with adjustments, tweaks, and whole additions to the modules so that there will be plenty of things you have not experienced before, whether you played through these 3 years ago or 30 years ago.

The whole point here is to have fun (duh), take a trip down memory lane (Holy crap! I remember the first time we walked into the village of Nulb! My paladin of Pholtus...) and relive the past if you played these modules before or see what all the hype is about, why most of these have been named 'Greatest Adventures of All Time' if you haven't played them, and finally to experience (or re-experience) some of the wonderful creations and ideas Gary Gygax gave to the gaming community.

I planned to use the 1st or 2nd Ed. ruleset with some minor changes. This is something everyone interested can discuss, it doesn't matter a whole lot to me as they are virtually identical. No Players Option stuff, probably none of of class expansion books either. Though the Unearthed Arcana will be allowed since that is Gygaxian. No, I will not convert them to 3rd or 4th Ed. That kind of defeats the purpose here.

We would meet once a month at a minimum. Twice a month would be better. With Temple and G-D-Q we are talking mammoth adventures spanning from levels 1-8 and 8-14+. Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Tuesday evenings are my open days but this would be decided by what is convenient for the maximum number of interested players.

Likewise, I plan to host the game at my house in Oakton, Va (which is between Vienna and Fairfax) but if there is another available location that works better for the maximum number of interested players, that is fine by me.

As for how many people, I need a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8.

I'd like to start ASAP. Contact me if interested!
