The Currency Act in Canada indicates that cryptocurrency cannot be “money” for cryptocurrency contracts to be legal. In the context of litigation, as well, cryptocurrency cannot be “money”. This talk will discuss legal issues that arise when contracting and litigating for cryptocurrency, both in Canada and across borders. The relevant cases and statutes will be discussed, as well as scenarios when legal advice and representation is essential.
