What we're about

Want to volunteer in your community and make some great friends along the way? Then this is the group for you! Founded by former members of Austin Kiwanis Young Professionals, We Serve Austin - Young Professionals is designed for busy young adults in their 20s and 30s who: a) want to meet fellow young professionals who share their passion for volunteering; b) go out and perform a variety of community service projects in the Austin area; and c) get together to socialize both after projects and occasionally during the month. Our formula is simple. Each month will schedule a few service projects. We'll try to keep a good balance between recurring and one-time projects, and all projects will occur on weeknights or weekends when young professionals are most available. After each project we'll have a lunch/dinner, happy hour, or something else planned. And we'll have 1-2 stand alone socials planned during the month. This is the core of the group - service and fellowship.

Before participating, I encourage all volunteer enthusiasts to read our Volunteer Liability Release (https://www.meetup.com/We-Serve-Austin-Young-Professionals/pages/Volunteer_Liability_Release/) and our Cancellation and No-Show Policy (https://www.meetup.com/We-Serve-Austin-Young-Professionals/pages/Cancellation_and_No-Show_Policy).

Central Texas Food Bank - Warehouse Shift

Central Texas Food Bank

Note: You will need to register through the Central Texas Food Bank to attend. SIgn up here in addition to your RSVP: http://weserveaustinyoungprofessionals.cafb.volunteerhub.com/

We will be volunteering in the warehouse and helping inspect, clean, sort, box and prepare donated food and non-food items for the food bank to distribute.

This is an in-person event, please only come out if you are comfortable interacting with others. As of July masks will be optional for anyone who is fully vaccinated, so please plan accordingly.

Other notes:
- Be sure to arrive on time. They ask for volunteers to arrive up to 10 minutes early since there will be training at the start of the event.
- If you arrive more than 30 minutes late, you will not be allowed to join us.
- Wear closed toes shoes and shirts with sleeves! I know it's summer, but this is one of their rules for safety since we'll be handling various things.

St Louis King of France

Note: This is an in-person event, please only come out if you are fully vaccinated and comfortable interacting with others. However, we will continue taking necessary precautions (gloves, hand sanitizer, etc) as needed

Founded in 1998, Mobile Loaves & Fishes has served meals with a side of hope to the homeless and working poor on the streets of Austin and San Antonio, Texas; Providence, Rhode Island; New Bedford, Massachusetts; and Minneapolis, Minnesota.

To date, Mobile Loaves & Fishes has served over 4 million meals, and with the support of more than 18,000 volunteers, they are the largest prepared feeding program to the homeless and working poor in Austin.

We will begin at the church with food preparation and loading the truck. From there, we will travel to designated sites and hand out meals to anyone in need of a meal. If you would like to learn more about Mobile Loaves & Fishes, please visit their website (http://mlf.org/).
