IT offshore outsourcing involves managing of risks. When software testing services are outsourced, client and service providers face a variety of risks. Parvathy presents a systemic analysis of the risks involved in offshore outsourcing of testing services for a leading telecommunication provider in New Zealand.
Using semi structured interviews with clients and and service providers, the risks faced by them were identified. A systems model was developed by connecting the cause and effect relationships between the factors that influences these risks. This model revealed a set of feedback loops, responsible for the counterintuitive behaviour related to the decreasing success rate of IT offshore testing projects in the organisation. Two strategic interventions were proposed to address this complex situation.
