Discovering the next big performance opportunities
Details
What are the highest value features one could land in WordPress or React core to improve performance across millions of sites? Understanding how to fix the performance of entire web ecosystems is not too dissimilar from the way an individual site owner would audit the opportunities of one of their own pages—but it does require A LOT more data. In this talk, Rick will talk about some of the work the Web Vitals team is doing to prioritize opportunities across millions of websites. Using public resources like Lighthouse, WebPageTest, and the HTTP Archive and CrUX datasets, we can learn a lot about how the web is performing and what our best bets are to move it forward.
Rick Viscomi (@rick_viscomi) is a Staff DevRel Engineer at Google, working at the intersection of web transparency and performance. Rick is on the Chrome UX Report (CrUX) and HTTP Archive teams and uses these public datasets to track the state of the web.
This is an on-line event, we use Zoom so you will need to RSVP to see the link in the sidebar (please don't share the direct Zoom link publicly as we don't want to be Zoombombed, which happened before, unfortunately).
