Pinnacles (Sport)
A cure for the winter blues. Pinnacles National Park has a ton of sport climbing. Although I've not done any, there is a also a good number of trad routes. For those that have not been, it is known for it's chossy rock quality and often spaced out bolts. Check out the Mountain Project page here: https://www.mountainproject.com/area/107307393/east-side Otherwise, Pinnacles is a really cool place with very unique rock. Lots of people come here just to hike and enjoy the scenery. It's about a 2.5 hour drive south from SF. Definitely doable as a day trip, but I'm planning to spend Saturday night there to get some climbing in on Sunday as well. There is also talk about hiking, aka approach training. Climbing and Gear - Bring sport climbing gear, a rope if you have one. A helmet is highly recommended as there can be some loose rock. Camping gear if staying overnight. We will be climbing at the East Side. I would love to check out the Monolith area, but I'm down for anything. Discovery Wall is also very popular. Great if you can lead, but do keep in mind that some of the routes are pretty runout. Otherwise, we can setup some topropes for those that want it. Getting There - As I mentioned, it's about a 2.5 hour drive from SF. See Mountain Project for directions. Make sure you are going to the East Entrance. This link should take you there: https://www.google.com/maps/place/East+Entrance+Station,+Paicines,+CA+95043/@36.4879635,-121.1559075,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x8092448a1f9817d1:0x53cacd80ed5f4920!8m2!3d36.4879592!4d-121.1537188 You'd want to park in the lot closest to the trailhead at the end of the road, another 10 minutes from the East Entrance. Let's meet there at 8AM Saturday morning. If it's full, there is an overflow lot with a shuttle that'll take you to the trailhead. Staying There - I booked a campsite. Site 35 Loop B. We can book more sites if enough people are staying the night. Campground is pretty clean and has a well stocked general store. That said, the next nearest store is a while away. If you're camping, try to bring everything you need with you. Hope you guys can make it!
