What we're about
Upcoming events (3)
This event has two options: 1. Meet at Cheddar Gorge at 11a to do some walking and exploring [or if you are feeling extra keen] 2. Meet at Castle Park at 8a to bike over to Cheddar Gorge for the event. Then, continue to do walking and exploring. For the biking group, the route there will be about 21 miles and the route back will be about 26 miles. I’m estimating ~3 hours each way if we go at a mild pace (no [wo]man left behind!). For those not biking, let’s plan to meet at the car park across from Jacob’s Ladder at 11a (more information here: https://www.cheddargorge.co.uk/visitor-info/maps). ^^The Cheddar Gorge visitor page is also great for scoping out driving/busing/parking instructions. See you all soon!
Join us for a "Harbourside Adventure" with SUP Bristol. I have booked a place on a 2.5 hour guided SUP paddle round Bristol Harbourside. Please see link below for details: https://www.supbristol.com/product/harbourside-adventure/ If you are interested please go to the link and reserve your place on the "Harbourside adventure" at 11th of May, 11am (spaces are limited!). Price is £37.50 and payable on their site. There is no additional meetup / weekend wanderers charge for this event. Places are not reserved for our group but it would be great if some of us could all join in a paddle together and go for a beer afterwards! Please let the company know you are part of the meetup weekend wanderers group when you reserve your place and they will hopefully keep us together. Please only RSVP once you have reserved your place on the SUP Bristol website. See you there! Location: The Cottage Inn, Baltic Wharf, Bristol BS1 6XG Pub afterwards: https://www.butcombe.com/pubs/the-cottage/ Length: 2.5 hours for the paddle + pub time See the SUP Bristol website for what to bring etc.
Kinder Scout is a popular hill in the Peak District. This walk brings us up onto the plateau from Edale, firstly skirting the edges of Kinder scout, then makes its way into the peaty remote interior of kinder scout itself before looping back to Edale. Terrain on the high plateau can be demanding but ascent is limited to the first part of the walk. The dramatic edges, wind carved rocks and remoteness give the walk a unique experience. Distance: 17.6 Kms Ascent: 620 metres Time: 6 hours Start and Finish: Edale, The Old Nags Head pub, (Sat at 11am) Walk link and info: https://www.mudandroutes.com/routes/kinder-scout-walking-route-from-edale/ We are staying 1 night (Sat night) at: YHA Hathersage Castleton Road, Hope Valley, Hathersage, Derbyshire, S32 1EH You are welcome to book accommodation in the same hostel or one close by. To bring: - Water bottle - Hiking shoes (waterproof, gaiters, ones you don't mind getting muddy) - Warm clothes (gloves, scarf/buff etc) - Sports base and a fleece mid layer - Waterproof - Hat - Sunglasses & cream - Walking sticks if needed - Food and drink (Lunch for the walk!) - Change of clothes *Disclaimer* Although this group and events we run will be as safe as possible, it is important to be aware that outdoor activities such as mountain hiking carry risk of personal injury or death. It is your responsibility to be equipped sufficiently for the planned event. See you there! Jason & Paul
