What we're about

What's Elixir?

Elixir is a robust performant fault-tolerant scalable functional language that is a growing choice for solving many problems. It's becoming more popular in Wellington.

What we're about

This meetup aims to foster that growth and provide support for Elixir development in Wellington.
Who's this meetup for?If you're keen to meet up with others interested in learning, using and solving difficult problems with Elixir then this is the meetup for you.

How to get involved?

Follow updates and news on twitter: https://twitter.com/wellixir and we hang out+chat in the Elixir Slack's #new-zealand channel, you can signup here: http://bit.ly/slackelixir. Note that we are in the process of updating the slack inviter and that will be fixed by October 4.

We welcome presentations, both deeply technical and non-technical. If you want to get a better understanding of something, what better way than to try to explain it to someone else. We also welcome remote presenters.

If you want to help the running of the group please get in touch as well. We're trying to foster this community and that are lots of things we can all do to make a positive difference.

We are working to be more responsive to the needs of the Wellington Elixir community and we will be soliciting input to adjust how the meetup works so that it works better for you.

Wednesday Hack Nights

Online event

** Because of some scheduling issues, we've moved the meetup to the third Wednesday of each month ** **Survey feedback** I've sent out a survey to get feedback about how we want to operate for the next six months. Based on that feedback (and what discussion we have at the August meetup) we'll chart our course for the rest of the year. **August meeting** For August we're going to have the meetup on Zoom instead of at Solve's offices. The schedule is as follows: 5:30 pm Zoom meeting starts 5:40 pm Presentation starts I'll update the meetup event closer to August 19 with details of our presentation. **Who's this for?** We're trying to accommodate both people who are new to Elixir and those who are more experienced. Most of us are new to Elixir and working our way through tutorials or starting our first projects, often with Phoenix. So if you're new to Elixir this is the perfect event to be at. There are normally a few experienced Elixir folks present that are happy answering questions. We are tinkering with the meeting format so that it works for the whole community. **Remote Attendance** We'll setup a zoom meeting for the technical presentation. You'll need to have zoom (https://zoom.us) setup beforehand (you'll need to setup your own account). By RSVPing to the event you'll get the Zoom link. Remote speakers are very welcome as we're setup to handle that now. **Sponsorship** Thanks to Solve (https://solve.io) for covering the meeting space, pizza and drinks (and thanks to Sailthru (http://carnival.io/) for past sponsorship.
