Dying in Vain? The Death of Savita Halappanavar

When Savita Halappanavar died from septicemia at University Hospital Galway after doctor's refused to abort her miscarrying foetus, there we protests from Berlin to New Delhi. Those in the political establishment were quick to promise reforms of Ireland's draconian abortion laws but following the introduction of recent legislation has anything really changed? With an estimated 5,000 Irish women still travelling to the UK every year to access safe and legal abortion, Cormac Maguire explores the complexities of the issues and laws involved.

    What with...
    * the recent discovery of hundreds of children's skeletons in the grounds of a mother-and-child home
    * the discovery of several burials at an orphanage known for child abuse
    * the death of Savita Halappanavar
    * the age-old sexual abuse scandal
    * the Magdalene Laundries
    - the role of the Catholic Church in the life of Ireland is not looking good

      Those children died of neglect or abuse. Nobody needs an intangible being to tell us that that is just wrong. Or are you assuming that atheists have no morals? There are several good books such as Sam Harris's "The Moral Landscape" that can make you aware of plenty of sound foundations for atheists to get morally indignant.
