Jans hut is located 2.5 hours walk from the Catchpool Valley Carpark and is accessed via crossing the river (you will get wet feet and boots).

There are several other, longer options for getting to Jans hut, and other options once there, tbd nearer the time – including climbing Mount Matthews. Or feel free join us and simply relax in the hut!

How to RSVP
RSVP and pay $10 for accommodation (I'll send you my bank details when you rsvp). If you rsvp and pay and then become unavailable, arrange for someone to take your spot in the comments. Make sure the person who takes your spot has answered all RSVP questions.

About the hut
This is a serviced hut which we will have sole use of (guaranteed bed!) with gas cookers and pots / pans / cutlery / etc. those interested can participate in a shared meal – menu and costs will be worked out a couple of weeks before the trip.

Logistics
Please advise if you can take a car in the comments, let’s try take as few cars as possible. Passengers to pay koha to the driver (passenger and driver please arrange amount and payment between yourselves suggest minimum $5pp each way). We will meet at Catchpool Carpark ready to go at 9am. We'll arrange rides, shared meal, etc via messaging in meetup, make sure this feature is enabled.

What To Bring:
Sturdy tramping footwear.
A wind and waterproof jacket
Warm layers
High energy snacks
Water bottle (2L)
Bring something for lunch (x2) and breakfast (dinner too if you don't want to take part in a shared meal). I'll arrange a shared dinner for those interested.
Bring extra clothing in case of wet weather.
Sleeping bag and sleeping gear
Day pack if you wish to complete another walk once dropping off overnight gear (or empty and use main pack)
PLB if you have one
Survival bag, First Aid and personal medication.
Walking poles if you have them
Cards or game for the evening
Head torch
Candles and matches
Hut clothes and shoes
Toilet paper
A celebratory drink if you wish
