About us
We are a friendly, upbeat walking group with members typically aged 30s-60s, providing a mixed programme of walks every weekend, as well as social events, weekends away, and other activities.
We are part of the national Ramblers, so for a one off yearly fee of £43.00 you can come along to any of our events. We hope that once you have walked with us a few times you will be tempted to join us as a member of the West Kent Walking Group

You can get full membership of the group by joining the Ramblers' Association at: Join the Ramblers ( when asked to choose group select West Kent Walking Group). Hartfield, Forest Row The Red House Mystery 12.5 miles, moderate
Hartfield Primary School, Car Park off High Street, Hartfield, GBThe Red House Mystery is a whodunnit by A. A. Milne who lived on the outskirts of Hartfield and who is better known for Winnie the Pooh. There is a house called The Red House in Hartfield.
We head Westwards through Hartfield to Marsh Green and passing Newbridge Mill, we enter Ashdown Forest reaching Stone Cottage which was the Irish Poet W.B. Yeats’s home from 1913-1916, where we take a short break. Afterwards, we head through the forest and heathland with fine views to the North and South to reach The Ashdown Forest visitor Centre where we stop for drinks and toilets.
We head Northwards down through Broadstone Warren to Highgate on the outskirts of Forest Row, and into Chapel Lane where Sir Arthur Conan Doyle lived before, he moved to Crowborough and into Forest Row where we stop for Lunch.
After Lunch we take the High Weald Landscape Trail and climb up to Cansiron Lane an ancient ridgeway track at least 5000 years old, and before we enter Collingsbush Wood there are splendid views towards Hartfield and South towards Ashdown Forest. We continue along the High Weald Landscape Trail back to Hatfield.
Optional drink in the Bear Inn afterwards.
Subject to walk leaders approval we allow well-behaved dogs under full control of their owner. If you wish to bring your dog on the walk, please check with the walk leader before arriving for the walk.

Paul L's Petteridge and Matfield evening walk - 6 miles, moderate
The Hopbine Inn, Petteridge Lane, Matfield, GBMeeting outside The Hopbine Inn, we'll walk West along the High Weald Landscape Trail, passing through Matfield's lovely village centre. We'll turn North then back East through the Brenchley Wood nature reserve.
We will pass through numerous fruit farms and orchards. The walk is moderate, though a couple of the paths are very uneven.
Post walk drinks at The Hopbine (they also do food including a variety of pizzas)

Paul S' Fairwarp Gold Circular 5.5 miles, Leisurely
The Recreation Ground, The Street, Fairwarp, GBWe start from the Village Green, and head toward the church,where the Eckstein family are burried who lived at nearby Oldlands Hall, and who became wealthy through gold mining activities in South Africa, and hence the title of this walk.
We join the Sussex Diamond Way, and head across Ashdown Forest towards Nutley, where we take Clock House lane, before heading North to join School Lane.
We head Eastwards across the Forest to Marlpits and on to Holles Car park, with fine views to the South, passing through Duddleswell on our way back to Fairwarp.Option drink in the Foresters Arms.

Simon's South Downs, The Meads seashore, Eastbourne to Jevington Circ. 13 miles
Helen Garden, Dukes Drive, Eastbourne, GBA varied downland walk starting first along the shoreline at Holywell steps (possible seals in view) before striking up to Beachy Head war memorial and views of the iconic light house. Then head inland towards the village of Jevington (Eight Bells Pub) and home of the Hungry Monk Banoffi Pie. Return trip along Southdowns Way and then interesting back path (Jubilee Way) into Eastbourne. Seaside bar at end.
