Geek Meetup Locations/Events

Yonkers, NY
Post #: 17
I've only been to a few, and they involved movies and eating. This seems to be the most convenient way to go. However, I found these events to end rather abruptly when the movie was scheduled last. We enjoyed some food, exchanged a couple of stories, and then saw the movie. After the movie, everyone briefly met outside, exchanged good-byes, and ran for it.

It was like a date gone bad.

That's exaggerating. It was kind of fun, but at the end it was like, "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here."

I've had this discussion with Mark from the WARS Meetup. I think the location is key. Someone's home is great, but there's the worry of accidentally attracting the rare Psycho-Geek variant. Space can also be an issue. A pub or restaurant is an option, but time is somewhat limited, and I am not keen on going full geek in public, within earshot. Blame it on high school.

The only thing I can think of, other than the movie idea, which isn't that bad, is perhaps a picnic in a park? The open space is good for a large group, and strangely enough, adds a degree of privacy to the event. The downside is the weather.
