What we're about

COVID-19 Update: 01/03/2021

It's been announced that England will be leaving 'Lockdown 3.0' on Monday 29th of March. After this date, I'm expecting we'll be able to resume group walks. Probably bound by the 'rule of 6' for the first few weeks. Restrictions on where and how far we'll be able to travel are yet to be confirmed.

Stay safe, all and keep active when you can. My inbox is always open.

About Weston-super-Walkers:

This is a walking group for people who like a day spent in the hills. Our day walks can be anything from 8 miles long and upwards and we'll have events running all year round. I'm not a qualified or insured walk leader. I do have several years' experience of leading Ramblers groups and a Bronze NNAS certificate in hill skills and navigation. A future ambition is to achieve a Hill and Moorland Leader award and get some proper Outdoor First Aid training.

In order to cover the costs of hosting on Meetup, I will usually ask for a donation of £2 for attending our day walks. There is no obligation to pay anything and I would not turn away anyone who would prefer not to pay. You're also welcome to pay for a block of walks at one time - please contact me to discuss this.

I'm currently running this group alone and, outside of work and all the rest of it, this can demand a fair amount of time. If you would be interested in organising and hosting walks of any length, please get in touch.

I hope this offers somewhat of an insight in to what this group is about. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me. I hope to see you on a walk one day.

Axbridge to Crook Peak (9.5 miles)

Cheddar Reservoir

Regarding COVID-19:

Although we're out of Lockdown, we are still bound by the 'Rule of 6'. Attendees are expected to maintain a safe distance from others and to not attend if you feel unwell. It's advisable to avoid directly touching gates and stiles - a glove or cloth can be used. Hand sanitiser may also be useful.

This walk begins with a long, steep climb up from Axbridge. We'll have a short break somewhere along the way past Shute Shelve Hill. Crossing the A38, we'll then take on Somerset's own "Great Ridge" - from Wavering Down all the way to Crook Peak (no S!).

Lunch will follow, before a descent on to the Levels. We then make our way back over the A38 and back to the cars.

Please always bring walking boots and not trainers. Something to eat and drink along the way. Waterproofs, layers and/or suncream, depending on what the weather may decide to do.

(Even if the Going list is full, please do put your name on the Waiting list as cancellations can happen.)

Dogs are welcome but will need to be kept on a lead at times.

I'm currently asking for a donation of £2 per walk to help cover my costs on Meetup. I'm happy to accept cash on the day or electronic payment afterwards. You are still welcome on this walk even if you do not wish to pay.

Any further questions? Please leave a comment or message me.

Mendip Challenge 2021

Needs a location

It's that time of the year again where we have the opportunity to take part in a fundraising event following the West Mendip Way.

I'd like to stress that this event is NOT hosted by Weston super Walkers or myself; this is merely an advert/placeholder for others who may be interested.

Full details and registration can be found at the Weston Hospicecare website: https://www.westonhospicecare.org.uk/event/the-mendip-challenge/

I'll be taking part in the 30 mile challenge. There's also the option to walk 5, 10 or 20 miles, with staggered start times.

There won't be any WsW walks on this day from me but others are welcome to lead walks - please get in touch if you're interested.
