Halloween Open Boardgaming and Party (see note, costumes recommended)
*Don't hesitate to joint the waitlist (if there is one) - it usually moves 5+ spaces in the couple of days leading up to the event. If you know it's too late and you aren't going to attend even if you get off the waitlist, please get off the waitlist, since you might otherwise get off of it on Saturday morning and take up a spot that someone else could have. Feel free to comment or message during the event and ask if there is space - as people leave during the day, we can open up more space. Special Halloween Note: 1. Costumes: Costumes, even if weak and phoned in, are strongly encouraged. They'll be a (low key) costume contest. I may have a small number of assorted costume elements and accessories available for those in need. 2. Timing: Starting at around 7pm or 7:30pm, the big black kitchen table will be closed off to gaming and instead get pushed back against the wall a little to give more "milling around" space, and will get covered with snacks, decorations, etc. There will still be 2-3 tables available for gaming in the living room and the smaller one in the kitchen, if needed. It's also possible that a small number of other folks will show around 8pm for general Halloween hanging out. They might jump into games or not, who knows. No biggie. They'll likely be a little more drinking in the evening - mostly BYO, but I'll probably make jello shots or punch or something. The 11pm end time is soft. Drink responsibly. Bringing themed snacks/drinks is encouraged. 3. Games: Folks are welcomed to play what they'd like, but the'll be a general emphasis on spooky, Halloweeny, and horror style games (e.g. Arkham Horror, Eldrich Horror, Mansions of Madness, Mountains of Madness, Werewolf, The Thing, Mysterium, Last Friday, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Are You a Cultist?, City of Horror, Cthulhu Wars, Dead of Winter, the Fury of Dracula, Ghooost!, Ghost Blitz, Kingsport Festival, Lovecraft Letter, The Others (holy hell I have a lot of halloween/horror games), etc. Join us for board gaming near the Wheaton metro. Potluck food and drink. *There's an infant in the household - she doesn't spend much time around the boardgaming, but please make extra sure to look around for stray game pieces when you're putting stuff up. *Instead of doing a joint dinner order, this time I'll probably plan to coordinate a Chinese lunch order (Panda Wok) for anyone interested. I'll start collecting orders at around 1pm with the plan to submit the order at around 1:45pm so we'll be able to get those sweet lunch special prices. To cover tax, tip, and delivery fee I ask for order price + 25% by cash or Paypal. *Please rsvp if you're planning to make it. *Please update your rsvp as soon as you can if you realize you can't make it, especially if we're at or close to the rsvp limit. *The house is a very short walk from the Wheaton metro. Take the exit off of the metro on the right. Walk forward then turn right. The exit will be on your left. Then follow this map: https://imgur.com/a/iyt3Y *If you are parking, the Amherst Garage is cheap and nearby and there are other good options too. Be sure to to obey parking laws - there's no parking on the roads immediately around the house. *This is a pet/drug/smoke free household. *Feel free to show up after the start time but if you know ahead of time you're going to, it's great if you can post around when you're planning to make it. *This Meetup is generally meant to stick to the main floor of the house, which has a living room, kitchen, dining room, and bathroom, so please don't go up or down stairs without asking one of the hosts. *The host boardgame library is listed here: https://boardgamegeek.com/collection/user/Coolmew?gallery=large&subtype=boardgame&own=1&ff=1

What we're about

Who should join: This is a group for folks to meet up to play board games. If you're into this hobby already or if you're new to it and interested, we're happy to have you. We strive to create an inclusive and welcoming environment, and the host loves helping new folks get into the hobby.

Don't know any games? Don't worry - we'll teach you.

We meet primarily at a townhouse in Wheaton (Silver Spring), MD, right off the Wheaton metro stop on the redline. We also list local board gaming conventions as events, and sometimes group members will host events through the group.

We have space for 4-5 concurrent games, or for about 20-25 people. Some people stay the whole time. Some leave early or show up part way through the day.

Don't be surprised to see some Werewolf or 2 Rooms and a Boom if and when we get a big group of interested folks. Expect a mix of short, medium, and long games, thematic games, deception games, etc. This group is a little less Eurogame heavy, but they get played some here. A few games that have been played a few times:
Cthulhu Wars
Betrayal at House on the Hill
Terraforming Mars
One Night Ultimate Werewolf
Splender

We do potluck food and drink, so feel free to bring something to share. We'll often order Chinese in the evening.

The main venue is a pet-free, drug-free, no-smoking townhouse. It does have a small number of stairs that are unavoidable - feel free to ask for more details if you have mobility issues and are concerned.

We usually meet on Friday evenings and Saturdays and during the summer, Sundays.

Most events are open, but some, especially RPG events, are meant for a small group that signed up in advance. Post a comment or message the host if you aren't sure.
