Hi all! At the end of our tour yesterday (on lower river walk next to Waterworks Restaurant) we saw some bushes with dark berries that one of our members, Lana, recognized as the edible black chokeberry. So we tasted the berries. They tasted sweet, almost like a blueberry, but also left a dark stain. If you go to look for it, just try one berry as there are not many left for other people or the birds. Here is what Lana said about it: As for the bush (tree?) we saw at the end of the tour today, I promised to find a translation for you, so here it is. It's called black chokeberry, and it's the relative of ashberry. While the latter one is more bitter, black chokeberry is relatively sweet and not even too tart if picked in time (or it can be left till frost, and can be picked in winter - it gets very sweet then! (if birds don't get to it first)).
